I'm glad to see people at least thinking about what they are doing! I feel like I am being sucked into some uncontrolled fervor for something I've never even seen...YET! If what you are looking for has to have three seats or you need 4WD, then by all means, the Pilot cannot be beat...even at MSRP. Over list? No way... look for another dealer, or postpone the purchase a little and give yourself some breathing room. For me, I don't need 4WD in Florida. I also don't need 8 passenger seating. They are both nice to have, but I'm not sure I want to pay for 'em. Honda made these things standard (but NOT a 6 disc changer!), because if they made them optional, many people would not be willing to shell out for them. They know there will be big demand in the beginning, so they are gonna forcibly make money on those features. The customer has no say... for NOW. Mark my words, in a year or two or three, the 4WD, that adds probably $1500 to $2000 to the base price, will be made optional to lower the price and give the Pilot a second wind in sales down the road when the "newness" wears off. But, I would not feel bad about the Pilot and paying list if it fits your needs to a "T". Remember, you get what you pay for, and quality ain't free!
