I did not know that Nancy Kovack married Zubin Mehta. That explains her premature disappearance from the world of entertainment. It seems to be a fairly common thing—beautiful actresses abandoning their careers to marry a big shot from the world of business or the arts (or even royalty—Grace Kelly is sort of the poster child for this affliction). You never hear of an actor giving up his career to be a “good husband” to the female head of Hewlett-Packard or something. I’m glad at least that Nancy’s marriage has been a long one and apparently a happy one.
I mainly know Nancy Kovack from “Jason and the Argonauts”, “Apollo” and the Star Trek episode “A Private Little War”. Her presence certainly uplifted all those shows. If I were Nancy I would have told Zubin to put HIS career on hold while I pursued more work in television and the movies. I may be a philistine, but I think the world would have been richer for more Nancy Kovack guest shots on Mannix, Hawaii Five-O, etc., even if it meant one less recorded cycle of Mahler symphonies.
Thank you Tatia for the wonderfulness of your research.
