Hi there, NoGoodJack ....
Great that you found us!! Gold star for your diligence, my man!!
As to
Alf Kjellin - he was one of my favorite directors on "I SPY" - he always brought an elegance to his work - polished and cool.
There are some pretty great episodes here, that he directed for "I SPY" ...
Child Out of Time
Bridge of Spies
Vendetta
A Gift from Alexander
Rome Take Away Three
Tonia
The War Lord
Get Thee To A Nunnery
Blackout
Mr. Kjellin was quite an actor in his day - working with Ingmar Bergman. He was in several interesting movies as well - "Ice Station Zebra" (1968 ... Howard Hughes' favorite), "Assault on a Queen" with Sinatra (1966), and my favorite performance of his as Herr Freytag in "Ship of Fools" (1965.)
Ship of Fools
He then went on to quite an illustrious career in directing TV shows adding his impressive touch to episodes of Man from U.N.C.L.E., Gunsmoke, Ironsides, The Waltons, Columbo, The Paper Chase, etc., etc., but he also still continued to step in front of the camera through the 1970s.
Alf Kjellin in I SPY, MISSION:IMPOSSIBLE, ASSAULT ON A QUEEN, and Ingmar Bergman's TORMENT (1944)
I'm going to respond to Jimmy Mitchell's wonderful audioclip posting of "The War Lord" later, but I wanted to also mention here that I thought Mr. Kjellin did an amazing job on "The War Lord." I had always wondered how things went on that set, since Mr. Culp created, wrote, developed, and starred in this stellar story (twice) - how much "input and control" did Mr. Kjellin have as the director, under these circumstances? After listening to the audioclip, you can hear that he had things well in hand. Not only was Mr. Culp's stunning and spectacular vision brought magically to the screen, it was Mr. Kjellin's also.
One of these days, we will get to our next episode review for "Mederra Block." Hope you will join in, Jack!!
All my best,
Tatia
