Response to Re: The Black Pinky Ring

Ahhh, the famous ring (or is that rings?) ..... Yes, yes, we've noticed, too!

In fact, I was planning on doing a Kelly "Ring Quiz" one of these days, so I have a bunch of photos right here ready to share.

I've noticed the black pinky ring, along the way, gracing Mr. Culp's hand in "Corpus Earthling" on THE OUTER LIMITS during that great scene where the rocks start conversing all around him. And then there's Chet Loomis, the Dad, in "Sammy, the Way Out Seal." He seems to have one just like it. (I hope to get some shots of both of those in the near future.)

Becca was right and someone did mention "The Ring" a long while ago. I hunted back and found this from Peg in 2000 ... it was in regards to the line in "I SPY RETURNS" ...

(I have a shot of the scene she mentions, but no ring to be seen).

Peg writes that Kelly says:

~~~~~
"Maybe you'd like to explain to me, why you quit me? ...I'm still wearing that dumb ring you gave me."
Bob's ring is around for most of his early career from what I've observed (early-mid 60's) except by I SPY time, he's wearing on his left hand and by '67, it seems to have been replaced by a much larger silver piece that looks like it might have some kind of cultural/anthropological (Mexican?) significance. Given their travels, I wouldn't be surprised if he picked it up somewhere along the way. Other rings I've noticed: a tiger's eye in one of the Columbo episodes.
Upshot: the rings are definitely his.
Peg noticed, too !!!
And in his commentaries on the "Dead Zone" DVD, our Mr. Culp mentions he often uses his own wardrobe (we've noticed ... ). He said he hates to waste time when he arrives on location going for wardrobe fittings, etc., so he brings along his own things.
And then there's the famous comment from the costume designer on "BOB, CAROL, TED, & ALICE" .... this is from an interview with Paul Mazursky.
"Robert Culp was in I Spy, "the big thing then," Mazursky said. "I liked him and thought he'd be perfect for the part. He was so perfect he used his own wardrobe. Moss Mabry, the costume [designer] went to his house and said, 'I don't have to buy anything for him. He's got more zippers than anyone.' "
So back to the ring ( or rings?? ) ....
Here's some views from I SPY and elsewhere .....
(Any guesses as to episodes??)
And hi Mona ... you mentioned you've been watching lots of early Culp performances. Where are you getting your goodies from? Any good sources out there? Here's a site I've used in the past with lots of early Culp appearances.
