I wonder if someone with more investigative or historical knowledge can help me with this question. I've been cogitating about Kelly leaving the service since that topic arose and I wondered about his financial situation upon doing so.
Kelly and Scotty were G-4 employees as I remember; anyone know what kind of paycheck they earned back then? We hear them disparaging their pay now and then, even though they had essential no real expenses in life. Their per diem was no doubt enough to pay for their hotels, food, travel. In a couple of episodes, they (humorously) applied to be paid for other expenses, such as a broken watch and glass pants. Of course, they did spend consistent money on clothes!
If Kelly began spying three or so years before our "I Spy" episodes, and spied for at least another 3-7 years afterwards, he'd have been a spy for around, let's say, 10 or so years as a rough estimation. If he saved and invested a significant portion of his pay, can anyone help me extrapolate what type of bank roll he might have accumulated by the end of his spy career?
