I don't agree with the word 'terrible'. And I really doubt any of the problems you mention are going to get fixed by a simple remastering.

As far as subtitles/captioning is concerned, I agree wholeheartedly with Stefan. ALL DVD releases should have this option in this day and age. But AGAIN - I very much doubt it will happen for this re-release!
