Hi!

Here's an UPDATE on the movie "TAKEN" that Mona mentioned a few weeks ago.

First of all it appears that "TAKEN" has changed its name to "GROWTH." There is another new movie in post-production called "TAKEN," but it appears to be a totally different project. The cast of "GROWTH," though, list the same actors as mentioned in the articles Mona and I found earlier.

Well, I just ran across a new article .... from the charmingly titled site called "BloodyDisgusting.com" and to top it off the author of this review is called Mr. Disgusting, himself. (Don't leave me now gang, hang in there, there's more!)

Mr. Disgusting writes in his article entitled AFM '08: Parasites Take Over in 'Growth' that "GROWTH is an action packed psychological sci-fi thriller, filled with special effects that will blow your mind every killer step of the way."

He also says:

" ... you'll find the American Film Market sales art and long synopsis for Gabe Cowan's GROWTH, which stars Alexi Wasser, Richard Riehle, Brian Krause, Robert Culp, Chris Shand and Nora Kirkpatrick. We caught a glimpse of the film at the market, which looks inspired by both NIGHT OF THE CREEPS and SLITHER ....

In 1989, on a quiet vacation island off the coast of picturesque New England, a groundbreaking experiment is underway. Scientists, working with the island population, have successfully unlocked the gateway to advancing human evolution. Using a parasite, they have been able to amplify the vision, hearing, speed, strength and intellect of the human subject, promising to usher in a new age for mankind ...

Until disaster strikes."

Gosh, doesn't it just always seem like "disaster strikes" whenever you get a real hankering to go around enhancing and mutating and fooling about with evolution.

(and it looks like they just added this trailer, too ... )

There is also an article from Sept. 25th from "The Martha's Vineyard Times," when the film was still called "TAKEN," that mentions the cast filming there, including Robert.

O.K. a few minor peculiarities here, besides the film's backstory .... I didn't see our Mr. Culp's name on the promo picture above, did you, even though he is mentioned in the articles? And our Mr. Culp is always quite diligent about having his name appear prominently in all of the projects he associates himself with ... (and he's not listed on their new trailer site either).

So I went to check out "GROWTH" on IMDB and his name is nowhere to be seen in the cast or credits ...

http://us.imdb.com/title/tt1300159/maindetails

nor is this film listed on Mr. Culp's IMDB page.

So I'm going to go with the wild assumption that he is no longer associated with this film ... Now, like many of you loyal fans, I try to see whatever new productions our Bob appears in. (I'm still hoping his son Joseph's film HUNGER becomes available on DVD. I would very much like to see that one!)

And though I have braved through the likes of "X-TRO-3" and "SILENT NIGHT, DEADLY NIGHT - PART 3: YOU BETTER WATCH OUT " ( ... well, I actually did think that "Fishbowl Head Ricky" was pretty cute - he was the catatonic bad guy who wore a glass bowl on his head to keep his brains in and was not too excited about the prospects of seeing Santa at holiday time), ..... I will NOT be heartbroken if our Mr. Culp is no longer involved with "GROWTH," and I can be spared viewing those growing, amplifying, mutating, and evolution advancing New England-flavored parasites.

And maybe Mr. Culp should stay away from movies with a "3" in them, too??

But what do I know? Does anybody know anything more about "GROWTH" ??

Anyway, I wish them good luck with their film. From what I've read, they sound like an industrious, creative bunch of young filmmakers. This film, though, is definitely not my "cup of tea." (I don't remember a side order of parasites at the Boston Tea Party either, do you?)

As always,
