Response to Those I SPY Connections Are Everywhere .... |
| Tatia:
Well, first off...it WAS better than the man From U.N.C.L.E. in spite of the fact that UNCLE had more product "tie-ins" (which was amazing for THOSE days). BTW, I still have my UNCLE wallet.
Plus, I got the original 4 John Tiger novels at my school's bookmobile for like 60 CENTS each!
(got the others later...Herbie knows about them)
Try doing THAT today.
I liked the idea of a show that was a lot more REALISTIC.
James Bond and his large & small screen clones were everywhere, cashing in on the "spy" craze, but along come these two guys working for my (very rich) Uncle Sam, and they don't always get "their man"...OR the choice assignment.
They sometimes get into DEEP trouble, and yet they still pretty much manage to keep their cool (with some light-hearted banter).
Not to mention it was a FIRST for TV...a black man and a white man working TOGETHER to achieve the same goals...marvelous.
You'd THINK there was a lesson to be learned by ALL there, eh?
Well, I "got it"...as did all of you here.
When I look at the episodes today, it reminds me of how GOOD the acting really was, how well scenes evolved, and how great the cameras were utilized for both the intensity of some scenes, as well as the locale shooting. They even used hand-helds and obscure shots (like over the shoulder while driving)
Yeah...I SPY...definitely a "keeper" in MY book, even after ALL these years.
