Network54 Problems Update .... & a Request

Hi Everyone!


I hope no one is encountering any difficulties posting on the FORUM.


Here is a note from Network54's Support Forum about their recent problems ...


"There was a major security issue, which was dealt with. The result of the security update was that many of the normal functions most of us have grown to depend on got disabled or mangled in the process. Things have affected different forums in different ways, which makes it even more confusing ..."


Apparently the problems differ depending on the type of browser people are using. Network54 is well aware of the problems and are working diligently to correct them.


The problems appear to be having "Anonymous" appear instead of your name, difficulty posting photos and images, punctuation disappearing, and problems with formatted signatures ... items of that nature. And at times, you may get a "not connected to server" message. This never lasts for more than a few minutes, and may be connected with their trying to correct and test things.


A few suggestions I've seen so far are to post photo URL's directly, without any tags added -- Just post the direct link for your photo or image and Network54 will automatically add the correct codes for it. For punctuation, try using straight quotes and apostrophes instead of the curly or "smart" ones. (You may be able to re-add "disappeared" quotes in the Preview page. I always type my postings in WORD first, and then cut and paste it into Network54. I have curly (smart) quotes turned off in WORD.


If you are still experiencing any difficulties, they recommend that you go to their Admin. Support Forum and send them the link of what you are trying to post, and they will try to help.

They are definitely working on correcting their problems. We'll hang in there with them while they try to sort things out. They have provided us with a relatively trouble-free home here for many years. If they are unable to resolve any of your specific problems, please let me know.

These recent minor problems with Network54 made me stop and think that we have no way of contacting you, in case something should ever happen to the FORUM, or if we would ever need to change host sites suddenly.





I was thinking it might be a good idea to have an "Emergency Back-up E-mail List."


I know that privacy is of the utmost concern to everyone, and that is why most of us use pseudonyms around here. We do not receive any information from Network54.


So any e-mail information I receive will stay absolutely private and guarded in the Loring Vaults. It will never be distributed or shared anywhere - and will be used only in the event that we need to notify you of any changes with the FORUM.

I'm sure Network54 will solve their problems soon, but having an "e-mail back-up list" sounds like a good idea and a way to keep everyone connected to the FORUM if we should ever encounter major problems.
