Here is the next installment of Location Audio/Carroll-Culp Theater. It's a bit overdue. Blame it on the Centralia Adventure.

The location audio tapes were discussed previously here:

And the Elayne Carroll/Robert M. Culp adaptations of the classics of theater for LP were discussed here:

First up is a location audio tape from 23 April 1967. I'm continuing to post them in chronological order. This is one of the less interesting tapes, but not without its little nuggets. This is from Production 60 (The Beautiful Children) and contains audio for scenes shot in Casablanca. Kelly and Scotty, posing as Mr. McBeath and Mr. Timms board a ship (I forget where it's bound) to fool their pursuers, drug a couple of them while on board, then get off the ship before it sails and get on a plane to Greece. The tape contains "Mr. McBeath" and "Mr. Timms" talking to the purser (I believe a lot of extras were involved as well) and also scenes on the ship when they drug the bad guys. Of particular interest is Bill Cosby's brief improvised comedy routine about midway through the tape. The director is Earl Bellamy.

Once the company was in Greece, based upon the tapes I have, they worked on Let's Kill Karlovassi and Laya before returning to The Beautiful Children in late May of 1967.

Next is the Carroll/Culp adaptation of "She Stoops to Conquer" by Oliver Goldsmith, first performed in London in 1773. It's presented below in four parts. Wikipedia has a nice summary of the play:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/She_Stoops_to_Conquer

Robert Culp plays the central male character Charles Marlow. Marlow is a well-educated man, who's been "bred a scholar". Marlow is sophisticated and has travelled the world. Around lower-class women Marlow is a lecherous rogue, but around those of the upper-class he is a nervous, bumbling fool. The title of the play comes from the fact that the upper-class Kate Hardcastle poses as a barmaid to win him.

It's interesting that Elayne Carroll tends to play older women even though she was in her late twenties.

Cast of Characters:

Sir Charles Marlow - Hyram Peckins
Charles Marlow (his son) - Robert M. Culp
Richard Hardcastle - Jack Perdew
George Hastings - Scott Hale
Tony Lumpkin - Lawrence Chelsi
Landlord - Robert M. Culp
Slang - Hyram Peckins
Mrs. Hardcastle - Elayne Carroll
Miss Kate Hardcastle - Helen McCall
Miss Constance Neville - Nancy Ponder
Pimple - Claudia Pinza
