This isn't really a review as much as an extended comment. I've only watched this episode on the dvd so far ....
Cool Corvette, speeding along an empty beach at the edge of the ocean from a helicopter view above. And of course, that fabulous theme song pounding out that rhythm. What magic to see that car and those two guys and hear that theme song.
Tod and Buzz are watching the waves as they tear along and talking about a guy who gave them the idea to drive from Oregon to somewhere or other ... and that the whole trip could be done by driving the beach the whole way.
Ha ... maybe in 1963.
Meanwhile in the fishing town that Tod and Buzz are about to find, David Jansen is a drunk bully, beating up some guy on a pier and throwing him over into the water.
Hard to imagine Jansen in this kind of role.
Jansen finishes the fight and stumbles down to his docked boat. Stumbles into the below deck and there, standing, waiting for him ...... ahhh ! There she is !!! Laura/Tatia .... "Toika" in this episode.
She's in love with Jansen and he doesn't give her the time of day.
Obviously, he's out of his mind.
There she is .. beautiful... with her long blonde hair, tied back and yet flowing to her shoulders. Black sweater and jeans.
That hair, that face, that black sweater and those jeans !
Did I say "yeow" earlier?
My first double-take was ... who is this? I didn't immediately make the Tatia/I Spy connection even though that had always been one of my favorite episodes. My second double-take was that this looks and sounds like a blonde Jennifer Connelly .. only 10,000 times more beautiful. My third double-take was ... this looks like a hot woman from right now ! Not from 1963.
Eventually, Todd and Buz see her for the first time and of course, their jaw-dropping reaction is much more in line with mine.
Once I fast forwarded to the end credits and saw her name, the Tatia episode clicked.
As you can see, I'm quite taken by Laura, even from across the years.
On another thought, had Route 66 never happened, Kelly and Alexander would've also been cool, working their assignments from that Corvette.
