I don't believe he has, but can anyone tell me for sure if Robert Culp has ever won any sort of acting award?
In my opinion, his lack of an Emmy for his role as Kelly was a terrible injustice. I'm sorry, and don't mean to insult the Scotty fans, but Bill Cosby in my opinion simply wasn't as great an actor as Culp to win the award three years running. I'm afraid that some sort of civil rights "point" was being made giving it to Cosby and not Culp those three times. Again, my apologies if this offends any Cosby fans. Just my opinion which is not worth that much!
Anyway, has any organization every acknowledged Culp with an award?
According to IMDB, he has received 5 nominations (as follows), but has not won the actual award:
Year: 1968
Result: Nominated
Award Category: Emmy Outstanding Continued Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Dramatic Series for "I Spy"
Year: 1967
Result: Nominated
Award Category: Emmy Outstanding Continued Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Dramatic Series for "I Spy" AND Outstanding Writing Achievement in Drama for "I Spy"
Year: 1967
Result: Nominated
Award Category: Golden Globe Best TV Star Male for "I Spy"
Year: 1966
Result: Nominated
Award Category: Emmy Outstanding Continued Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Dramatic Series for "I Spy"
Yes, I knew about those nominations, but wondered if I had missed some other award that of which he was the deserved recipient.
Then his OBIE award for "He Who Gets Slapped", his off broadway theatre award, which he got, gosh, way back when is his only award for a career of magnificent acting?
I remember watching the Emmys, during my mispent youth, in 66, 67 and 68 and seeing the obivous disappointment on Bob's face when Bill was announced as the winner, year after year. No matter what he said in, "The Book," he couldn't hide it.
I will admit that it was a time in our country's history that it was probably a better thing to slight a white man's achievement and celebrate a black man's similar achievements.
What bothers me more than, "Who won what," is the fact that Sheldon sold the show out after he and NBC agreed the show should run for at least another 2 years going into the 3rd season. We, all Forum readers, fans, contributors, etc, would have 50+ more episodes to watch on our DVD collections. Two years of ad-libs, great impprovs, locked rooms and who knows what else. This really annoys me.
