Here's another installment in the "We Watch, so YOU Don't Have To" category ....

This photo is up on eBay - not one I've seen before. It looks like it was taken from one of the early Asian episodes (Ascot Kelly there), but I have no idea what episode it is from.

O.K. eagle-eyed "I SPY" gang .... Here's your challenge -

"What Episode Is This From??"

Here's the auction page from eBay. He's asking $9.99 + 2.50 shipping - seems a little steep to me, but this is certainly a photo I've never run across before.

And for any of you who have mentioned looking for an "I SPY" poster - one is up on eBay. These don't seem to be offered as often as they used to be.

There are some bids on this one already. It was going for $9.00 with $5.50 shipping, when I checked last.

As always,

Tatia

The Infamous Poster

August 8 2007, 12:32 PM

I encourage any of you I-Spy-Philes out there to snatch up the poster. I bought a copy years ago and have rarely seen them on ebay. An interesting note, Bob had the poster framed in his downstairs bathroom (along with a framed LIFE Magazine cover of France Nuyen from the B'way production of "Suzie Wong", which was, coincidentally, across from a framed playbill from the musical "By Jupiter" which featured another ex-wife, Sheila Sulllivan).

Outside the bathroom, on the wall, Bob had a framed drawing he had done for "The Warlord", featuring the figures of Kelly and Scott on a raft, floating towards a mountainous island. The mountain spelled out The Warlord. It was only years after he had drawn it that he suddenly realized he had basically lifted the idea, unconsciously, from the "I Spy" concept drawing.

A little Culp-ania for you all.

Warlord Drawing

Dear Mr. Beardface, thank you for the interesting information. The drawing that you mentioned that Mr. Culp did of The Warlord is depicted on the inside cover of the DVD which contains that episode, one of the "Culp Collection" DVDs. I was very impressed with his artistic abilities!

The Infamous Poster and "Vanity Says the Preacher"

August 8 2007, 4:54 PM

Hi!

(My computer connection is having major problems - going in and out - mainly out!! Comcast has scheduled a service call tomorrow - so I am typing this as fast as I can, and hopefully will get it posted, before I lose my connection again. So watch out for typos!! )

Ahhh, Mr. Beardface, you stole my thunder. One of the postings I have been putting together includes some things I "observed" recently when watching the GREATEST AMERICAN HERO episode Vanity Says the Preacher (or a.k.a. The Culp Family Album). This is the one that Bob wrote, directed, and personally produced the cast for ... all of his kids are in it, as is Mrs. Culp No. 5, Candace, and his Mom.

Mr. Beardface had informed us when he last visited the FORUM that the "Delvera Hacienda" in this story was actually Bob's living room.

The Delvera Hacienda - or - "Casa Culp"

And this is what eagle-eyed Tatia ran across - just as Mr. Beardface mentioned.
I caught a glimpse of this framed sketch in the alcove as Pam and Ralph were passing by.
Bob's "War Lord" sketch is included on the "Culp Collection" DVD jacket. And yes, there is a strong connection to the I SPY poster.

( I won't comment on the psychological intonations connected to the "ex-wives on the bathroom wall" .... each to his own!! )

And here are a few more "photo connections" from Vanity Says the Preacher.

It seems that Bob's unwilling driver in "Hickey & Boggs" gave it all up to became "Monko" the leader of the Indians living in the remote mountains in Vanity Says the Preacher. (Well, traffic in L.A. can do that to ya.)

And it certainly looks like son Jason borrowed Dad's (or Kelly's) suede jacket here - (how many years later) ????

and I guess Dad also passed along some other talents to his kids (besides choosing "cool" clothes).

Here's son Joseph playing the guitar .... and Dad doing the same, in Bonanza's "Broken Ballad."

And this is the eldest brother, Joshua, who played a young Bill Maxwell in a newsreel in "Vanity."
(Where'd he learn that fancy gun twirling, Hoby??)

And as I mentioned, the whole Culp family makes an appearance in this episode.

Here's daughter Rachel (with her brother Joseph) portraying the young Delveras at their wedding on the day of the Revolution.

and lastly Candace, with baby daughter Samantha, along with Grandma Culp, as guests at the party at the "Delvera Hacienda."
I always thought that Bob would include the "whole" family in this episode, and it took a little hunting to find this shot.
In our pre-screen captures days, Mr. Beardface kindly confirmed the "cast of Culps" for us.

I'm still working on the other posting, with more shots from "Vanity" included, and hopefully will have it done soon.

(Hope my connection is holding, so I can send this through.)

As always,
Tatia

It was Miss Loring in the sunken living room with the magnifying glass.

Fascinating stuff, Tatia! Thank you.
