Mike Fenton was the I Spy casting director (and I think an associate producer for a time too). I have watched the entire interview. Most of the I Spy content is contained in the first two parts. Mike Fenton is candid and opinionated and very interesting to listen to. I didn’t agree with everything he said about I Spy, particularly concerning Culp and Cosby’s ad-libbing. He does seem to have forgotten that Robert Culp wrote seven of the scripts, and many of the best ones.

The last three parts of the interview are well worth the trip as well. He discusses his career as an independent casting director (which continues to the present moment) with several good stories. (Becca, you may take exception to something he says about NASCAR near the end of the interview.) Mike certainly describes things as he sees them.

Hi Jimmy,

Thanks so much for letting us know that the Mike Fenton interviews were up on the Academy of American Television Archives site. Listening to him was SO interesting - and not just about his "I SPY" insights, but about his whole career. I had planned on only listening to the first parts about his "I SPY" experiences, but ended up listening to the entire interview.

Mike Fenton - Casting Director and Associate Producer on "I SPY"

I find it so interesting having the names on the "I SPY" credits finally come to life - and finding out more about the talented people behind-the-scenes who made "I SPY" so stellar.

And thanks also for the refresher course in "Comic Books 101"!! I had forgotten some of the details - especially about the poor plastic "enshrined" high-end versions. Definitely reminded me of "Sleeping Beauty" waiting for her prince to come set her free!!

Yes, I agree - comic books should be read and loved, and not encased in plastic for all eternity!

And for those of you still interested, that primo "I SPY" Comic Book #1 is still at $258.00 with 11 bids on eBay. I imagine people are waiting till closer to the end of the auction to continue the bidding.
