Checking In

October 24 2007, 4:26 PM

Thank you for the concern and good wishes Tatia. I did have to evacuate early Monday afternoon. I think they were being very cautious and I didn’t feel particularly threatened at my location (though there was a difference of opinion on this subject in the house). We were allowed back home early Tuesday afternoon and are quite safe and doing well.

The situation is still pretty intense here in San Diego County and farther north too. There are still a staggering number of displaced people. I think the number is greater than half a million. I know a few families who are staying with relatives or in hotels and don’t know the status of their houses. So I feel pretty lucky. Thanks again for the kind thoughts.

Jimmy

Check in-Orange County

October 24 2007, 6:40 PM

Thank you, Tatia, for keeping us in your thoughts. We're okay here in Orange County. We were waiting for the evacuation orders when the wind shifted. The fire is now moving away from us, and we're completely out of danger now. I'm so happy to hear that Jimmy is home safe, too. Sending happy thoughts out to all our friends in Southern California.

Adding my thoughts and prayers as well. Living in Arizona we have had our share of severe fires, but nothing that has ever effected my family. Anyway, stay safe out there!

Still Here

November 1 2007, 8:27 PM

I saw this thread a little after-the-fact, but figured I'd throw in my two-cents anyway.

Yeah, from where I'm at we got doused with a lot of smoke and ash raining down from the Running Springs fire. Us "flatlanders" don't have as much to worry about as the people up in the mountains.

Remember, the mythical town of "Brackett" ("A Few Miles West of Nowhere"), in reality Crestline, is not all that far from the fires, but I believe it's holding up well. If a fire consumed that storage shed filled with all the weapons and ammo that Kelly and Scotty discovered, they could celebrate the Fourth of July tied in with Halloween!
