Hi!
Looks like the Search feature is back up and running here. It appears that Network54 has been having a few problems lately, but they seem to stay on top of them. I had some difficulties getting on a few times, but within 10 minutes things have always cleared up. Anyone else having any problems?
O.K. ... A few weeks ago, I mentioned that I was going to add the preface "I SPY FORUM - ROBERT CULP & BILL COSBY" to some of my postings to see if it would help with our placement on search engines out there, especially GOOGLE. A few years ago Network54 put in some heavy-duty SPAM blockers in place that GOOGLE's webcrawlers can't seem to get across.
Where we used to be No. 1 or near the top on Pg. 1 on GOOGLE, we were then buried on pages 8 & 9 for a long time. There was a big outcry on the Network54 Admin. boards, but they stuck to their guns because site-wide SPAM that had become a real problem (remember the Spanish gambling postings ...) Supposedly Network54 is working on some sort of site-wide update, which may be implemented in the future.
OK, so I thought I'd try the "I SPY FORUM - ROBERT CULP & BILL COSBY"" preface to see if that would help - and apparently it has.
I still want to bang my head about GOOGLE, but they are better. For the search terms "I SPY FORUM CULP" and "I SPY FORUM TV" we are coming up on Pg. 1, but add "COSBY" in there and we slide back to Pg. 8 and 9 - and an old posting shows up, not our 1st page. GOOGLE does update often, so this can change anytime.
But for YAHOO,
wonderful YAHOO (who never seemed to have any problems with Network54's blockers), we are in the 2nd spot on Pg. 1 for the term "I SPY FORUM CULP COSBY" -
AND - they have 19 pages of our photos using the same search term and clicking on "Images."
http://images.search.yahoo.com/search/images?ei=UTF-8&p=I+SPY+Forum+culp+cosby&qp_p=spy+forum+culp+cosby&imgsz=all∋=18&fr=yfp-t-501&b=91
AOL uses GOOGLE for their Searches
ALL THE WEB uses YAHOO
DOGPILE had us on their first page in spot #3, but with an old posting coming up, and again in spot #5 with an old index page from September coming up?? They did include 3 pages of our "Images" (all taken from Yahoo).
MSN (which uses Live Search) has us ranked in the No. 1 spot, but doesn't have any of our images.
and
ASK.COM has us in their No. 1 spot for their web search and also includes 2 pages of photos for us.
So even though it looks strange, I'll keep hanging in there and using "I SPY FORUM - ROBERT CULP & BILL COSBY ..." on my postings.
All my best,
Tatia
