Culp and Charities

I love the complicated composites of human personalities. Robert Culp is certainly a person with all sorts of nooks and crannies in his psyche, which, among his incredible creative talents, enhances my fandom of him. So, while he may have pissed off all sorts of fellow actors and producers during his career, on the other hand, his heart seems extraordinarily large and accommodating when it comes to helping people and animals out in good causes. He may not suffer fools gladly, but he certainly lends aid to animals and people who are in need.

Charity benefits seems to be a regular feature of his social life. Today my "Culp Google Alert" led me to discover another benefit he flew out to Minnesota to attend:

Tickets to that event were nearly $2000, and supported the Starkey Hearing Foundation. We already know Culp is a solid and unwavering supporter of Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, which I am proud to admit I have also supported (though no doubt in significantly less of a financial manner) for over a decade. We all know about his animal rights activism regarding the elephants at the LA Zoo. Is there any list of all the charities our man Culp admirably and visibly supports? It's one thing to send a check from home; it's another to regularly attend in person these type of benefit events in person, especially traveling half the country to do so. That does him much credit and makes me even more proud to be a true blue fan of him.

Starkey Hearing Foundation

June 16 2008, 11:52 AM

Hi Mona,

Thanks for posting the information about the Starkey Hearing Foundation's annual "So The World May Hear" event. A great organization providing hearing aids for kids around the world.

Here's their website .... with photos from past events and pre-gala events for this year. They haven't added photos of the Saturday night Awards Gala itself as yet, but I am sure they will in the next few days - so check back again later.

BOTH Our Guys - Out & About - This Past Week-end ...

June 17 2008, 12:55 AM

The Starkey Hearing Foundation site just added photos of their Gala evening in Minnesota "So The World May Hear."

A red carpet and tux certainly agree with our Bob - and Ms. Faulkner looks very lovely, too.
(That's Samantha Faulkner, not Catherine ... )

And back in L.A., our man Bill was having a good time at the 30th Anniversary of the Playboy Jazz Festival at the Hollywood Bowl.

Here he is with Poncho Sanchez on stage. Sure looks like a University of Maryland logo on his "Hello Friend" shirt.

Hi again,

A bit more on the Starkey Hearing Foundation "So The World May Hear" event.

I just ran across this video of guests arriving at their 2007 Gala. It includes clips of Goldie Hawn, Mickey Rooney, Kevin Sorbo, Jane Seymour .... and our Bob discussing the Starkey Foundation. He comes on right after Leslie Nielsen.

and here's the direct link to the video

Also newly up on YouTube is a 10 minute long montage of scenes from BOB ET CAROLE ET TED ET ALICE - yes, in French!
Sounds good to me ....
