Hi!

I was away this week-end and didn't get to mention this auction that was up on eBay. (Sorry, I don't check on there as often as I used to ... )

Anyway, there was a great Robert Culp photo collection that was up for sale. The auction stated that Lelands.com Auctions had "acquired one of the largest collections ever, of historic vintage quintessential photos. Spanning the entire 20th century, they are from the San Francisco Examiner. The original newspaper acquired by William Randolph Hearst, it is the model for the landmark film Citizen Kane."

There were 15 photos in the collection and many had paper captions on the back.

The opening price on the auction was $14.97 - and the collection sold for $47.00 plus $10.00 shipping ...

Here's a look for all of you to enjoy!

And here's the auction info. on ebay for anyone interested ...

Disappointment!

June 23 2008, 8:13 PM

Wow, am I disappointed I didn't buy those photos myself! I guess I've gotta check out ebay more often. I've been spending a lot of time at ioffer buying old Culp TV movies. I sure would have bid on those photos! That was a very nice collection.

Don't Be Too Disappointed

June 23 2008, 11:25 PM

Hi Mona,

Don't be too disappointed ... it looks like the bidders and winner were some high-powered memorabilia collectors, and probably had that last-second-bidding software. They had something like an average of 1500 purchases each - and most of them had strange names with lots of *** in them. Not your average mom and pop bidder. And they appeared to be bidding on lots of the San Francisco Examiner photo groupings.

Perhaps, if they are buying these as collectibles (for a business), they may eventually put them up for sale themselves. In the meantime, at least we have the photo from the auction to enjoy. Fortunately, it was nice and big.

As always,

Tatia

Yes, Tatia,

I wanted to THANK YOU VERY MUCH for that jpg of the photos of Culp. I've already added them to my signature on the TGAH forum....I had to shrink them down, though on Photobucket to do that. But, it's nice to see each time I send an email there. Too bad I can't do it here!

Well, wait a second....

Mona
