I'm sorry to bother you but I've noticed that Mr. Culp has a tendency, both as Bill Maxwell in the episode "Operation: Spoilsport", and in the TV movie "Strange Homecoming", to use the phrase "Way to go, Blue!" when someone did something he thought was great (Ralph stopping guards in the former, and the boy Bobby throwing a football well in the latter).
I can't believe I'm the only fan of Mr. Culp who enjoys finding him repeating phrases in wholly disparate shows. In fact, I pay close attention to all that when watching him. It's quite fun!
I know the University of Michigan has a "blue" team, whereby "Way to go, blue" is part of the cheering of their teams, but Mr. Culp did not attend that institution. Do you know the etiology of his using that phrase as part of his characters? Is it a phrase he used in "real life" as well?
If anyone on the Forum can help answer this question, please do!
Alas Mona, I am not able to provide any information regarding "Way to go blue". According to Jason Culp, Bob used to say the phrase around the house when they were young - he assumed it was a Cosby-ism. But I have never heard him use the expression in the 30 years I've known him.
Next time I see Mr. Culp, I will casually inquire as to the phrase's origin.
As always, MBF, your kind attention to my little questions is much appreciated. If you can provide any other insight--if you remember to ask Mr. Culp the next time you see him--that would be great. Otherwise, THANKS!
