Hi gang!
I ran across this review of I SPY that I thought was very well done. It must have come out when the new DVDs were released. It's from a site called "Brilliant but Cancelled" and is titled "Smart TV on DVD - I SPY STILL BREAKS BARRIERS."
Here's part of it ....
"They shared an easygoing rapport and hip humor that lifted I Spy above TV's other derring-do secret agent sagas in the wake of the James Bond craze (niftily ribbed in pilot dialogue). Yet they were both clearly adults, as was their show, engaging issues and themes much more maturely realistic than the near-cartoon fantasy adventures of The Man From U.N.C.L.E. or The Wild Wild West .....
Maybe that's why I Spy hasn't cultivated a cult like those shows, which cemented their fandom in the hearts of baby boomer kids. Culp and Cosby appealed to the head -- the mind -- and the adult mind at that." ....
But that means I Spy is still resonant, unlike its now-campy competitors. The character portraits remain gritty and poignant alongside that crisp buddy wit. And you can't beat the show's look ....

And speaking of DVDs, we should be due for another episode review, it's been awhile! Following the "old" DVD order,
LAYA is up next. I hope everyone will take a break from the summer heat and watch
LAYA - sightseeing with Scotty in stunning Greece. I know that "Paully the Kid" is working on a review, but whenever anyone else is ready, please jump in there. And come on you lurkers, join in! No excuses - if you don't have the DVDs, you can watch
LAYA for free on Truveo (Truveo lists international links, also).
