... July 17, 2007, I posted this message:

http://www.network54.com/Forum/172251/message/1184722047/Moustaches

In which I wrote, "In many of the I Spy episodes Mr. Culp is so suave and stylish, which is a very handsome look for him, but I must admit I like it when he is allowed to be a little scruffy and rough around the edges and 5 o'clock shadowy (pre-dating the Don Johnson trend by about 20 years). Which reminds me, I need to post here some time my thoughts on I Spy versus Miami Vice."

I had always intended to expound on my theories of the similarities and differences between the two, but just never found the time.

Well to give credit, where credit is due ....

Hoby here had the scruffy look down pat about 30 years before Don Johnson hit the scene (and pre-dating Kelly by a good deal, too).

This photo is featured in the cool eBay auction for Hoby's TRACKDOWN boots that is going on right now on eBay.

There has been a change in the link to this auction. It is now ...

I've corrected it in the Track down Hoby's Boots posting below.

Glad you stopped by Becca - and the beauty of the FORUM is that you can post any time on any topic! If the topic you want to add-to has moved to Page 2 or beyond, it is usually a good idea to mention that you are adding to it in a quick note here. Or - you can start a new thread, on the top of Page 1, using the same topic name - but just adding "Continued ..." to the title.

All my best,

Tatia

I SPY and MIAMI VICE

September 30 2008, 6:23 PM

I'd love to hear your comments and views on the topic..!

By the way, most forums feature that when there is a new post to an old original post message, that it bumps it back up to the top. Is that not an option on this site? When I first joined this site I tried to go backward a ways reading, but it was a little cumbersome.

I like the sort of scruffy Culp look myself, by the way... in a manly sort of way, of course.

Actually, I had started to post in the original thread, but I got interrupted and my message timed out, and when I logged back on to the site I mistakenly posted it as a new thread :-/

Anyway, I think Tatia covered a lot of the similarities in the two shows regarding the whole buddy genre, the character traits, fashion trends and so forth. A couple of other things I might mention were the importance of the location shooting and the music to both shows.

Bumpin Up ...

Hi Jeff,

Nice to see that you are still with us ...

Well, it's W.Y.S.I.W.Y.G. around here. We've got what you could call "sure and steady simplicity" here at Network54. We opted for the OUTLINE style of posting for the FORUM early on, rather than the confusion of "long lists of titles covering a myriad of topics in a grid" format. Sort of a comfort level thing, one we've gotten used to over the years.

And for the last few years, I've paid to upgrade the FORUM to their Premiere service, which means no ads are shown and the wonders of Network54's "search engine" capabilities are totally available to us. We've found their "search" box to be very effective and works really well when you are looking up anything - a topic, name, etc.

So sorry, no bump up of topics - or index titles .... so if you want to add something to an older thread, just post it on the front page, and refer back to the original topic. Or you can post on the original thread itself, and just mention this on the first page (adding the URL of the original thread really helps). So far, this has worked well for us, and it really hasn't come up too often.

Hope to see you around here often, Jeff.

As always,

Tatia
