Nov. 14th - Cosby on Letterman (A Missed Opportunity) & Culp & GAH in the LA Times ....

November 15 2008, 2:03 AM

Hi!

RE: COSBY

What a shame .... the entire beginning of the Letterman Show was all about spies and the new Bond movie, and his Top Ten List was even something about how to spot a bad spy movie.

Then in walks Cosby, who did a cute monologue on growing older ... but no mention was ever made AT ALL about Alexander Scott or "I SPY" when he sat down to talk with Dave .... what a missed opportunity!! Of course Cosby was there to promote his COSBY SHOW 25th Anniversary DVD compilation, but it would have been the perfect time to have mentioned or highlighted "Scotty."

RE: CULP

And the LA Times today had a long article in their HERO COMPLEX blog section on the GREATEST AMERICAN HERO's upcoming movie and the recent GAH cast reunions. The writer met with Stephen J. Cannell and William Katt at Cannell's office where they discussed TGAH along with some other of Cannell's hit series.

The article also covered the less than warm rapport between Katt and Culp during the series, though they eventually did arrive at a good working relationship.

"What also worked was that Katt, the theater upstart, and Culp, who had been a television actor since the 1950s, did not get along well on the set and the friction only heightened the abrasive banter between their characters, who were opposites in politics, disposition and generational sensibility. 'You couldn't put us in the same room without a verbal confrontation about how we were going to approach a certain aspect or scene or something and neither of us was going to back down.'

Did the pair ever soften toward each other? 'We did reach a sort of détente although we were never buddies we did find a good working relationship on set.' "

I saw your post just in time to catch it on the West Coast Tatia. I came in at the end of Letterman's monologue. I'm with you. After the discussion of the new Bond film and the Spy themed top ten list, I thought Bill Cosby might bring up his spy pedigree. However he was funny and charming in that laid-back, surreal way of his. And I have to admit I was touched when he described bringing pictures of his mother, father, and brother with him to vote. I'm glad I caught it.

Jimmy

Hi Jimmy,

I agree ....

If you missed Cosby on Letterman, here is an article from AP in USA Today. Though they didn't discuss the "Huxtable Effect" on the Presidential election, much of what Cosby talked about with Dave is very similar to what's in this article.
