The Washington Post reports today that Bill Cosby will receive the very prestigious
Mark Twain Prize for American Humor" at the Kennedy Center this October.
The Post had two articles about the Award:
"Hey, Hey, Hey! Twain Prize Will Go to Bill Cosby"
and
"Bill Cosby to Receive Mark Twain Humor Prize"
Here's a few snippets from one of the articles ....
"Bill Cosby, one of the country's most enduring and familiar entertainers, has been selected to receive this year's Mark Twain Prize for American Humor, the Kennedy Center announced this morning.
Past winners include: Richard Pryor, Jonathan Winters, Carl Reiner, Whoopi Goldberg, Bob Newhart, Lily Tomlin, Lorne Michaels, Steve Martin, Neil Simon, Billy Crystal and last year's recipient, George Carlin."
Cosby was a Kennedy Center Honoree in 1998 and received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2002, "America's highest civilian honor."
The
Mark Twain Award salute will be taped before a live audience at the Kennedy Center on Oct. 26th, and will be released later for broadcast. The tribute runs 2 hours, but they will try to edit it down to 90 minutes for airing.
Here's the Kennedy Center's Page on the Award ... very interesting ...
