~ ~ ~ ~Hey! Hey! Hey! gang ...

Did you see the above posting?? I just checked it out and it looks like we are dealing with the real deal here. According to the Kennedy Center website, Peter Kaminsky IS one of the executive producers of the "Mark Twain Prize for American Honor" which is held at the Kennedy Center here in D.C. each year.

http://www.kennedy-center.org/programs/specialevents/marktwain/

and our past posting - "Honors for Our Alexander!!"

http://www.network54.com/Forum/172251/message/1238651915

How nice that he contacted us .... what a lovely opportunity this is, gang!!

C'mon, this is your chance to share your favorite Cosby comic moments from I SPY. O.K. everyone, put on those thinking caps!

[linked image]

And let's post our favorites HERE on the FORUM for all to share. I just sent a note to Mr. Kaminsky and told him to keep checking the FORUM for updates.

Now we know that most of the delightful humor came from the banter between our guys, but there were also those wonderful monologue/stories Scotty would go on and on about. They were always just great!

O.K. to start the ball rolling - here's one of my absolute favorite moments .....

It's the "Drink Splashing" scene from MY MOTHER THE SPY, when Scotty goes to throw a drink on the bad guy in the cantina, but somehow manages to get it all over himself! (I still don't know if this just happened or was intended?? happy.gif )

[linked image]

And one of my favorite monologue/stories is the one where Scotty describes taking "The Pledge" after his dreadful encounter with those "Demon Run Caramels" near the beginning of BEAUTIFUL CHILDREN. happy.gif

[linked image]

and then there's the story he tells in MAINLY ON THE PLAINS
about his cousin Timothy's hiccups while giving a speech in school ...
.

[linked image]

O.K. gang, who's up next???

All my best to Mr. Kaminsky and the "wonderfulness" of his Mark Twain Humor project.

As always,

Wonderful choices all, Tatia.

I'm also partial to the scene in Vendetta where Scotty climbs in through the window and tells Kelly about the "1938 Lasagne" he has parked in the courtyard. Vintage Cosby.

Regards--

Here's a re-print of a past posting from Aujouret - fits perfectly here.
Tatia

I think my favorite quote would have to be the lines from "Mainly on the Plains" when Scotty is reading the letter from his Mom. He tells Kel about 'his cousin Timothy who was giving a speech in geography class about volcanos and he kind of errupted. He got the hiccups, standing in front of the class. Th teacher hit him with a board eraser at him, hit up up the side of his head with chalk and everything and he stopped. And then on the way home he got them again and brother Russell scared him a little bit, you see. He waited until they got home and blew up a paper bag and snuck up behind him and pow. And that stopped them, but then my Aunt Clara passed out..."

I always loved when Bill used to sneak in bits of his record albums into "I SPY". The snakes in "The Honorable Assasins", The 'jello all over the floor' in "Laya", and the go cart racing reference in "A Few Miles West of Nowhere", just to name a few. I'll bet there are many of Bill's fans who enjoyed these little moments just as much as I did way back then.

Aujouret

MORE, Please ....

April 30 2009, 2:20 PM

Hey there everyone,

NO OTHER special Scotty moments to add ..... ( or make that Scotty & Kelly moments) ????

[linked image]

We definitely need to have our Alexander Scott duly honored and remembered at the "Mark Twain Prize for American Humor" evening and not let that Huxtable fellow get all the attention.

Something short and sweet is fine ....

What special comedy moments from I SPY do you love and remember??

C'mon on, gang!

All my best,

Tatia happy.gif

Must scenes be comic?

April 30 2009, 7:21 PM

I must confess that I know nothing about the "Mark Twain Prize", but it certainly sounds cool.
Must the scenes from "I Spy" be funny? Must they be comedy?
Certainly Samuel Clemmons wrote drama as well as comedy.
I can sure remember wonderfully dramatic scenes from "I Spy", proving that Bill was a fine actor period.
Don't they count too?

About the Mark Twain Prize for Humor

April 30 2009, 9:55 PM

Hi back Aujouret ...

Here's the website from the Kennedy Center - all about the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor.

http://www.kennedy-center.org/programs/specialevents/marktwain/

[linked image]

from their site:

The Mark Twain Prize recognizes people who have had an impact on American society in ways similar to the distinguished 19th century novelist and essayist best known as Mark Twain. As a social commentator, satirist and creator of characters, Samuel Clemens was a fearless observer of society, who startled many while delighting and informing many more with his uncompromising perspective of social injustice and personal folly. He revealed the great truth of humor when he said "against the assault of laughter nothing can stand."

Past recipients include:

George Carlin 2008
Billy Crystal 2007
Neil Simon 2006
Steven Martin 2005
Lorne Michaels 2004
Lilly Tomlin 2003
Bob Newhart 2002
Whoopi Goldberg 2001
Jonathan Winters 2000
Carl Reiner 1999
Richard Pryor 1998

Peter Kaminsky, one of the executive producers, posted this on the FORUM (see the beginning of this thread):

"i am one of the executive producers of the mark twain prize. we are honoring bill cosby this year. we would love to hear from i spy fans what they think the funniest scenes are and what shows they were in."

So that's why we are asking for everyone's favorite comic moments from I SPY .....

Mr. Kaminsky also wrote that they will be thanking THE FORUM for our assistance.

The actual event honoring Bill (the 12th annual Mark Twain Award) will be held in October at the Kennedy Center here in Washington, DC and televised later on. These shows are always wonderful and very funny, with lots of talented people adding to the joy of the evening.

All my best,

Tatia happy.gif
