this whole thing is plot contrived by Reilly. Plain and simple. To call Belle a whore is to call Jan a whore. Heck you may as well throw Mimi in there since she's still doing Rex after an abortion without telling him.
None of these people are whores (despite what I think of Jan). They are victims of Reilly's contrived plotlines and he needs to be shown the door.

Belle has known Shawn practically her whole life but the point is that Belle looks like a whore becuase She is sleeping with Phillip becuase she is upset with Shawn and she feels bad that Phillip is sitting there, she doesn't love him and she doesn't want to sleep with Phillip. Pitty that she will loose her virginity over that,and if you ask me though I want nothing more that Belle and Shawn together, if Belle gets pregnant she deserves it, I think the writer's need some serious help. A young girl sleeps with her best friend to get her love out of her head and to please Phillip who will never be more than a friend. The worst part is that people that are in their teens are watching this and the writers are sending the message to lose your virginity to anyone if they one you want is not available. HURRY don't wait kids sex with someone you have no strong feelings for and you will forget your true love at least for a night.
I have known ALOT of people my whole life and have no desire to sleep with any of them. Sometimes it is just plain old crossing a line that should not be crossed.
My 16 year old daughter watches Days for the teens! Now I have to explain to her how these teens have crossed everyline I never want her to cross and how the teens of Salem have no morales. NONE.......Belle is no better than Sami.
Just in response to everyone calling them teens....they are not teens anymore. There in they're early 20's now and yes, sex happens when your that age.
In fact being a virgin for that long is a rarety nowadays. Belle has hormones just like everyone else and if she wants to sleep with Philip...well that is the decision that she makes and she will have to deal with the consequenses, be it pregnancy or losing Shau forever (which she already thinks she has...) Believe I'm no fan of Philips, in fact he grosses me out...but what guy would turn down a pretty girl coming on to them dressed in lingerie?

I think that definition relies on the situation and the circumstances around it. For the record, I learned Whore was someone who had sex for money or in exchange for some specfic action or material.
Now I think the word you want is slut.
Slut is someone who either sleeps around or sleeps with some for the thrill or to prove a point without emotional attachment. That fits Belle here because she slept with Phillip to prove she was over Shawn.
hi all i agree with a lot of what you are all saying, but Belle, Shawn, Phillip, and Jan are not teens anymore, they are all 21 now. And yes it does send a wrong message but I would hope that the kids watching would know it is only a show and not real life.
I've read numerous times that Days is seeking the 12-17 market, and I have to tell you, I've worked with children that age and MANY don't understand that it isn't real life.
Heck, many adults don't realize it is just a show. Look at real life ADULT fans slapping Ali Sweeney at fan events just because she PLAYS Sami. I've read time and time again of actors getting grief because of how their characters appear.
Humans aren't the most discerning creatures around. Real life and TV life are very blurred. Is it right? NO. Does it not being right change anything? NO.
I call it reality....I read not too long ago that a huge percentage of women have one night stands or sex with no emotional attachment. I dont' think that means that they are all sluts. Maybe I just see it differently cause I'm 24 and just have a different point of view.
But honestly, I still don't think that they should have slept together...but it just bewilders me how people can label others like that.
It was a matter of time for it to happen. And just like in life...most peoples first time isn't all they expected it to be. I know that Days is a way to escape every day life and indulge in a little romance and stuff, but I was kinda happy to see a little action happen.
Although I must say that if I would've been Philip I definitely would feel like crap after Belle mentioned Shawn's name 3 times before saying "make love to me...." She's obviously doing this for the wrong reasons....but we've all made mistakes.
A label is simply a word that explains an action. Even labeling her (assuming the label is the correct one) doesn't mean she didn't make a mistake. It doesn't mean she is horrible, but she did make a CHOICE.
As for percentages, sure a lot of women do just what Belle did, then there are some of us who made the choice to wait. It doesn't matter, just because people make those CHOICES does not mean they are the right choices, the correct choices, the smart choices, or even the choices people wanted to see in this storyline.
Of course, all that being said I actually thought Belle having sex with Philip was where this storyline was heading. It is a soap and if we didn't expect characters to make bad choices we should be watching other shows. A soap where all the characters made all of the right choices all of the time would be very boring.
My conclusion, badly written but appropriate for the story being written, but certainly not something that should be emulated in real life.

She was a virgin until this encounter. And while she has some close calls with Shawn AND Phillip. She never went all the way!
Did she want to. Yes. But she didn't!
But she wasn't trying to bed guys at the Cheating Heart or at Basic Black. She wasn't with anyone all the way, until now!
She may have given up her beliefs because of her life at the moment. But she isn't a slut or whore.
About real life and show life. People know it's only a show but there is young people who look to the show for guidance whether we like it or not!
And seeing Belle who was in a three year intense relationship that lead to a marriage proposal and who had pledge to wait for marriage. It makes an impact. And to see her suddenly throw it away and sleep with the first guy after a intense breakup but still passionately in love with Shawn.
It also makes an impression. While I never really believed Shelle would make it to their wedding night, I always believed they would succumb before the wedding or be unique and wait!
It was a nice story. Unique. Only General Hospital tried "Waiting for Marriage" and Dillon ended up cheating on Georgie. So DAYS at least had the corner on it. And they also blew it!
Sure I'm in partial denial, and hope it's one big Gotcha down the line. But I do think teens and viewers out there look for DAYS to present a socially relevant storyline responsibly.
And to see Belle going against her beliefs and Phillip not stopping her when Shawn did. Shawn knew she would regret not waiting, if she wasn't truly ready. Phillip isn't. He knew of the belief to wait for marriage and even encourage Belle once to hold to that belief even if it caused trouble between Shelle!
Now he's all sex and not stopping her. She was crying, emotional and talking about Shawn before she starts the encounter. Phillip knows how much she loves Shawn. Heck she would be in bed with Shawn right now if Shawn hadn't had the memory loss. She was trying to reconcile with him.
That doesn't tell me she has any feelings for Phillip at all! Belle makes the decision and is responsible for it. But she wasn't truly ready and Phillip should know it!
It was a good story. Waiting for marriage. And the show blew it and had sex happen when it looks like payback and angry sex. Shawn and Belle love each other, but now each have had their first times with people they don't even love.
And for Shawn, it's his captor who abused, drugged and emotionally battered him all summer in a cage. It's insulting to see!
So while it's a soap opera. People out there liked the storyline and it did mirror real life. Waiting for marriage. It was a good moral storyline and they cheapened it!
Shelle will eventually reunite and I can't wait. But the show screwed it up!
Virginity is something VALUABLE that should be saved for marriage. It's PROVEN! No matter what your religious beliefs may or may not be, abstinence in life gets rid of all our sex-related problems. Notice that without the worries of sex, NONE of the teens on Days would be facing the problems they have right now! Ideally, if everyone saved sex until marriage, this world would be rid of many problems.
Belle is a woman now!!! and considering how she is being treated by shawn I do not blame her for being with phillip, he has been very kind to her..and lets be honest sex is not always about love, and lets not forget that shawn continues to call her a slut and what about that comment to phil about what its like to have a virgin come on brain trauma or not that is completely uncalled for....and as for her turning into a whore that is just plain ridiculous
Seal, I agree completely with what you wrote. It seems like Days is repeatedly dropping the ball here. Again. And not for the last time. I think it's terrible. And w hile in a way it is realistic to sleep with someone and regret it, it's usually not in a situation like this! Belle waited for years to have her first time be with her husband, Shawn. Philip knows this full well and still sleeps with Belle. Um, does anyone else think he is really pathetic? Belle is a grown woman and can make up her own mind but I think she will really regret this. And as for Shawn sleeping with the woman who held him hostage (and let's not forget all she did before she left for Europe), it is beyond ridiculous and insulting. I think a much more interesting story line would be to see how Jan's rape has affected her and her attitude toward sex. Again, Days blew that, too. But i dont think Belle is a slut, I just think she has horrible judgment and was very confused...but she should have waited. And basically Philip is a jerk who took advantage.
