Leave Shawn alone!

October 24 2004 at 10:15 PM

This is my first time to post...I never felt the need before now. My boyfriend has been telling me about how people are posting to this board, complaining about how Shawn's hair is getting "too long" and how he needs a haircut. PUL-LEEEZ! Every other guy on this show is so preppy and short-haired enough to be considered BALD. Shawn is a breath of fresh air. I even LUV the steaminess between him and Jan Spears. His anger and aggresiveness is a WELCOME change from his former WUSSY self.

And by the way, my X-tremely heterosexual boyfriend is even slightly attracted to Shawn - the way he is now! If you want your pretty preppys, then look all you want at Phillip, Tek, Brady, Rex, and Lucas. In my opinion, one rebel among all these preps could NOT hurt the show at all. I'll take Shawn over those other wusses any day - if I didn't have a boyfriend! lol

BO WAS A REBEL, Shawn is an idiot and sadly a wimp. The guy has the personality of a turnip. I cannot believe that the child of Bo and Hope is so pathetic. Short hair, long hair, or bald it would not change that. Then again ALL the teens are boring, and have long since served their purposes, it is time to do as the other shows do, have only a couple, and show them only sparingly, and most importantly hire better actors and write stories which are realistic for teens not the repetitive -- for the past FIVE YEARS -- silliness which has marked the Scobby Gang. Despite my age I love JOAN OF ARCADIA, the teens are interesting, realistic, their problems are those of real teens, they make mistakes, but not the same ones continuously. The writing for the show is first rate, and the actors can ACT. I realize that that is primetime and this is a soap, but TIIC at DAYS need to write better stories for the teens, hire better actors, and use them sparingly as they shamefully do to the much more deserving veterans.

ITA please get rid of the teen scene or write better stories for them. I'm a grandma and I love One Tree Hill so I don't think I have a problem with teens in the storylines. The stories on OTH might be a little over the top but the actors make them believeable. Not like Belle who is constantly whining why me, one minute she's madly in love with Shawn and begging for sex and now she decided to move on and the first thing she does is jump in the sack with Philip all the time still thinking she's in love with Shawn.

I realize that I don't read EVERY post here, but I do read a vast majority. I don't remember people complaining about his hair on this list, his personality yeah, hair no.

Now recently another board had a big problem with complaining about people's appearances. First time poster I honestly think you are blaming the wrong board.

Are you people forgetting that Belle, Shawn, Philip, Jan, Mimi, and Rex are no longer teens? They are the young adults, and the future of this show. I find it funny how people always complain about them... It is your opinion but what would you rather see, Caroline and Maggie baking cakes in the Pub?

They are just 19/20, and act like 12 year olds -- and that is being insulting to 12 year olds. As for Caroline and Alice baking YES, I rather watch paint dry because it is more entertaining than the pathetic Scooby Gang. It is more tha coincidence that shows with few teens, and on less frequently are the shows with the better ratings, it is no coincidence that the amount of time the teens are on correlations to the ratings, the more they are on the lower the ratings are. Frances' health limits Alice getting a storyline; however, Peggy is not that old, and why not create a story for her, something which is topical for "older" women. It is no contest, I definitely would love to see a triangle for ShawnSr/Caroline/Victor. They are much better actors and there already is history amongst the three -- the triangle dates back to when all three were young.

CalAggie, yeah Bo WAS a rebel be he lost that a long time ago. At one point it appeared as if they were tryin' to bring rebel BO back because he was gettin' in a lot fights and even though I hate violence, I was enjoying Bo's character more. Also at times to make him apear as a rebel, his hair would start to grow out
Well, hair doesn't make a rebel. The last few writers just can't or wont write him as one eventhough it seems they want him to be one.
As for Shawn, yeah, he was appearing pretty dumb for a while but that ain't Jason Cook's fault. Blame the writers for that. lol
Just like the character of Austin. Yeah, I think Patrick Muldoon was better but it wasn't so much that Austin Peck was a bad actor but look at the storyline he had to work with when he came on the show.
About the Scooby gang, this ain't Buffy The Vampire Slayer. They were kinda bein' called "The Scooby Gang" or just "the Scoobies" because of the work they we doin' Days has very little of that goin' on. "Saved By The Belle" was a lot more accurate. Oh yeah one more thing about the "Teen Scene". Umm they ain't teens anymore. I'm not tryin' to argue but just like drivers who don't use blinkers, that term bugs me now that it doesn't fit.
I personally like the younger crowd on the show but wish they had a better storyline to act on. I like nu Jan although I still dislike the character, I like Mimi, I can accept the new mu Belle, Brady's okay and I like this new Shawn. I just don't like Nu or old Phill.

X-Fan, in Angel's defense, I have read a few comments on here about Shawn's hair, and yeah I've read more on another couple of boards. I don't recall anyone doing a topic on "Shawn needs a haircut" or anything like that here but like I was sayin' I have seen it mentioned. As well as commenting on Bo's, John's or any of the males when their hair gets a little past the collar. Yet no one says anything when Nicole, Belle, Jennifer, Celeste, Lexie, Kate, Billie or any of the female cast gets their hair cut short. I'm NOT saying there's anything wrong with them havin' short hair but if no one's gonna complain about that, the should leave the guys alone. Not to mention I haven't seen anyone here or on the other boards state anything as their opinion. ("I feel" ___ should do this or "I wish" ____ would get a haircut) It's always "___ should, needs or has to do what ever.

Maybe Angel should go to other boards too but what's wrong with starting here?

Hey Metal Smurf,

You've seen some here? hmm, I missed it, but I do believe you. No, I only meant that it wasn't us doing the loud complaining. Her post said people at this board or something to that effect and I honestly believe (still do actually) that her boyfriend or whoever pointed her at the wrong board. Discuss it here fine, but saying we are guilty shrugs don't really think we are.

I am not sure your analogy of girls with short hair is quite right since in many areas girls with short hair is fine, but men with long hair is still frowned on (we give detenion for boys with hair below there collar). It is changing, but isn't there yet.

However, since the topic was brought up. I think the actor does look better with short hair and I am tired of seeing him need to push it out of his face. Although, considering the story line long hair seemed appropriate unless Jan liked him with short hair too and cut it for him. lol.

For the Record, always thought Bo looked better with short hair too, and I have been watching long enough to remember when he was Shawn-D's age.

For the other poster, yeah, I'd rather watch Alice, Maggie, and Caroline bake. It would be more interesting than most of the storylines in Old Salrm are right now. I'd like the younger storylines more if they weren't so removed from everyone else.

If TIIC want to keep the JC, EW, KB, MM,FF & HL , Why not give them more grown up storylines? They kept Missy Reeves but gave her a grown up story. They also let Ali Sweeney grow up. In the real world kids grow up get involved in relationships, get married & divorced, they have jobs that you actually have to go to, you get promotions or get fired, have kids, usually you end up regretting all the stupid things you do in high school not keep on repeating it. The point is that yes these characters will be the future of the show & there will be new teens (ie Abby, Chelsea & Will) so why not let these characters grow up like Hope, Jennifer, Bo, & sometimes Sami have. Not knocking anyone here folks except TIIC because I think all of the actors I mentioned do a good job or at least better than I could.

I caught that too, but was trying to be nice and not explain the difference between being attracted to someone and appreciating that someone looks good. However, since you mentioned it . . . I also wondered it this were a case of "doth protesting to much?"

In my post TIIC stands for the idiots in charge. Not trying to bash anyone though. I'm just trying to keep it humorous. I realize it must be extremely difficult to write, direct, or act in a show and try to make everyone happy. I just wish they would make the characters a little more real.

Re: Leave Shawn alone!

LOL I am Angel's boyfriend and yeah, I'm heterosexual. I get a lot of crap from "friends" and acquaintances for watchin' a soap and a few other things but I've never cared what anyones thought about me or my tastes. And yeah, Angel picks on me about the same things sometimes because A.. I'm a guy that watches a soap (Days, sometimes "Passions", used to watch "Texas" and loves "Dallas"), B. My hair is longer than my girlfriends, C.How often does a guy get a chick that doesn't like soaps to become addicted to one, and a few other things.
When she said "my X-tremely heterosexual boyfriend is even slightly attracted to Shawn" I think...or at least hope she was just tryin' to embarrass me (she should know by now that I don't get embarrassed).
Angel and I were watching DOOL and she's talking about Shawn and Brandon being hot. I agreed that (in my opinion) Shawn's looking a lot better and more attractive. (I still don't see what she sees in Brandon) and for now, I'm liking his attitude.. So yeah, I'm "appreciating that someone looks good",

X-Fan, yeah, I have. I recommended that Angel post here because I haven't been able to post on the other two boards that I've seen the complaining on. I don't see where she's talking about "loud" complaining, as she just said I told her how people are posting to this board (as well as others), complaining about how Shawn's hair is getting too long.
Honestly, I've gotta agree with her. It's not gonna hurt to have a variety on the show. "Maybe" Shawn shouldn't grow his hair out and someone else should. Either way, instead of having a full cast of clean cut GQ guys, one or two rebels couldn't hurt. I always thought Charles Keating (Carl Hutchins on Another World) would be good on Days as a rival of both Victor and Stefano.
Like I said before, I' wasn't saying that there is anything wrong with women having short hair but a lot of people tend to throw the Bible at me (1st Corinthians 11/14) telling me why "men should not have long hair." Then when I remind them of 11/16 or ask them about 11/5-6 they usually get upset and go away. If not, I tell 'em to figure out the translation straight from the Hebrew version and talk to me then.
My point is why are people always against a dude with ling hair but rarely if ever complain about a chick with short or no hair. I just feel it's wrong for ANYONE to dictate what another person does with their life. As long as your not hurting anyone (including your self), what's the problem? I had problems in School in the 70s - 90s with my hair and School (I won every time) and maybe that's why it bugs me so much when people state things like it's a fact instead of saying it's their opinion. Kinda like how you said "I think the actor does look better with short hair". I've got no problem with that because you said "I think".
I've been watching Days off and on during the later half of the 80s and pretty much constantly from 90/91 - now. and I'm 34. Not that either of those facts are important but I just figured I'd mention that since you gave a reference to how long you've been watching.
Please forgive any spelling or grammer mistakes I might have made. I've very sleepy now,.....G'night..ZZZzzzzzzzz

No offense, but is your girlfriend 12? Cause up until the part where you stated your age, I was under the impression both of you were prepubescent. Hmmm. That's odd!

I was watching an episode I taped a couple years ago. It had Shawn on it, with short hair, and I agree, he looks a bit young (and not just 'cause it was a couple years ago. The actor's like 24 or something IRL). And though I do have a thing for long-haired pretty boys, I think Shawn could use a trim. Maybe 1-2 inches, nothing drastic.
