Days ending- it's long

October 27 2004 at 2:57 PM
a disappointed fan

Has anyone stopped to consider that the show only had 5 years left to run, and that this is all playing out to how the show will ultimately end. I know it sucks because I am a lifelong fan, but this how I see it.....

Marlena was setup to be a killer...... which is kinda ironic considering she has been "dead" so many times and has always been a major character.

Sami and Lucas will finally get married and perhaps be happy for once.

For once Stefano is actually dead and his own "son" is the one who did it. Although, I know he always rises, but wouldn't it be awesome to say that tony is the one who finally took his a** out lol.

Mickey may end up marrying another after all these years.

Nothing really new with Vic/Nicole... except the fact that after all that blackmailing that she didn't kill Colin afterall!

Shawn and Belle FINALLy did it... but not with each other

Rex and Mimi may have a baby after all and will wind up getting married and happy.

Jack and Jenn have a son to add to their family, and abby will finally get a story also.

Will is finally getting a story.

Bo and Hope will once again be tested.... but I think in the end they will prevail.

Did I leave anything out?? anyways, I don't want to see Days go out like that.... if they are gonna fix this mess they better get cracking because the way they drag stuff out, the show will end this way and that is very disappointing

Not to be rude, but I know because it has been said t hat Days was going to be cancelled but they signed for 5 more years. what's gonna happen when that 5 years is up?? if it was to that point then, do you really think they are going to resign at the end of the contract?? I don't think so. well that's my opinion anyways. I just hate to see the show going out like this I really do.

DAYS will not be canceled

October 28 2004, 8:04 AM

UNless.......ratings really go down. Demographically their actually doing good with the 18-49 demos.

The 5 years is a contract with NBC, NOT to have DAYS canceld after that. If NBC chooses not to resign them (which i doubt it, unless another great soap comes into play at NBC) at the end of 5 years them Corday can try and sell it to another network. I read once that FOX might be runnner up. So "dissapointed fan" those 5 years is the length of the NBC CONTRACT not DAYS itslelf.

Well.....I know that they resigned their contract for 5 years-2009....but that doesn't mean that it's over in 2009....they've been threatening to cancel for years and they haven't.........

you shouldn't count your chickens!!

It's not a Mexican Novela, where there's only a limited time to the soap. The 5 years is a contract with NBC...they can re-sign or opt to go to a different network. It's not the end of DAYS.

a disappointed fact, don't get all temperamental over this! Days will definitely NOT be ending in 2009. And even the 2009 is only their contract with NBC! So seriously, not trying to start conflict, but most of us believe that Days will not be cancelled, it's just others were confused because your original post and title implied that it was in fact confirmed that Days was ending in '09.

The 1st couple of sentences in your thread don't sound like an opinion. You seem to have been stating a fact...or so you thought. Don't get all defensive we're just telling you that the 5 year contract is with NBC. Now the rest of your thread...now THAT was your opinion, no one's arguing about that. just relax.

Days will not end on 2009, Corday has plenty of power to get Days to another network. That is why I think the Soapnet deal came into effect this year maybe. Corday will have a contract to continue airing it on Soapnet our their parent company ABC, Back in 1998 their last contract go around Corday&Co almost went to abc, when it came down to they wire with that contract. NBC was wonting to get out of the soap busines in 98, but they stayed with Days and aired Passions for their younger demographic and they cancelled Another World and Sunset Beach, Days is not ending in 2009.

Im not getting tempermental yall and i certainly dont want to start anything, but no doubt corday has power, but seems like he would actually use it to get better writers! sure he could go to another network, but JER also writes for passions and sometimes that causes conflicts of interests,,, but thats the end im just waiting to see what happens because i think days is almost out. possibly even spawning another soap.

Some say that Corday IS a part of the problem. For years, Corday ignored Days, and left the operation to others more capable than himself. Then, in the early to mid 1990's he started to take more of an interest, and listened to people he shouldn't have. This could be a reason for his hostility towards Reilly. Many HW have regretted working for Days. They ended up tarnished because of the wackiness of the show which was not their decision.

I don't know how true this is, but to re-sign with NBC, he was rumored to have to give up a little control of the show. I have no idea if this is true, or not.

What I do know is that Soapnet has been a success for ABC. The Demo's aren't that young, but it has some of the strongest Demo's for women, even topping Lifetime. ABC is much more committed to its soaps, than NBC. Whether or not they would strike a deal with Corday is unknown, but considering they are now airing DOOL on SN, gives an indication that they might.

Sony is also involved with DOOL. Sony owns some defunct soaps, and is also part owner of Y&R, I believe. Sony had a plan to launch their own soap network, but that fell through. However, there has been talk between them, and Disney/ABC to become partners in launching a Soapnet 2. ABC/Disney would have no difficulty in bundling a SN2 with their other cable networks. This was a problem for Sony. It's not easy, or cheap to start a new cable network, and have it carried by cable systems all over the country. ABC/Disney has this covered.
