| Okay, I know that rumors of a spin-off have been around a long time (since the days when Marlena was rumored to her own show) and many of us have seen spin-off rumors circulating the boards. So, my thoughts are....
The cast is at a all time high roght about now. Many solid actors with practically no storylines or meager ones at that. Yet, during the serial killer fiasco we saw the younger crowd getting higher profile storylines. I know at one time rumor had it that there may be a spin-off with a younger crowd. There are an awful lot of them floating around these days. Abby, Chelsea, Will and possibly Connor, too. Plus, rumored returns of Eric, Austin, and Carrie. Sounds crazy! But maybe they are headed to a spin-off. They put some of the veteran actors on the back burner and try and create a solid fan base for some of the younger scene. Then when you are ready to spin-off, you will have a pretty "deep" cast that could handle splitting.
Personally, I hope not, but what do you all think? |

I don't think it will happen that way, but I would love it. Mainly, because it seems to me at times that there are three types of Days Fans.
1) People like the twenty-something/teen group. This is the same group who wants Chloe back and hopes for Carrie and Austin.
2) Fans who like Jack/Jennifer, Bo/Hope, John/Marlena etc. People who can tell you who Carly Manning was or remember when Alice rode on the back of Bo's bike. Long termers of this group will even talk about before their was a Brady family or tell you about Salem before there was Doug/Julie and Mickie/Maggie. This group looks for Steve and Kayla to return, mark their calendars when Shane drops by and would fall off their seats if Eugene or Vivian made a guest appearance. They are also the group who was sadly disappointed by the lack of families showing up at the funerals and wonder where all the Hortons went.
3) This group actually likes both shows. Hmm, there are some of you out there aren't there?
(In GENERAL - there are always some who don't fit the mold)
The first two groups enjoy totally different story lines than each other.
The first group liked the possesion story. They loved the mood control gizmo in Viv's tooth. They enjoyed all of Celeste's predicitions of gloom and doom. They loved the corney way people were killed and have no problem ignorning the wholes in the serial killer plot line.
The other group enjoys some romance and intrigue. They want to see Victor and with a better foe then Nicole. They want someone to figure out why Steve wasn't in his coffin. They want the people of Salem to go out and find the shared brain they seem to have lost this last year. This is the group who wants to know how you can fly to the a Carib. Island in 15 minutes from somewhere in the mid-west.
Looks like the perfect recipe to me for creating two shows to cater to both audiences. Of course, it makes sense - so it will never happen.
Disclaimer: I make no secret that I am in group two, however, I have tried hard not to offend the people I would see as being in group one. If I failed, I am sorry. |

I would be fine spinning off the young as well - not all of them, but most of them.
I'm with X-Fan on the groups. Obviously, I'm in Group 2, but I would be thrilled to have Carrie and Austin (Patrick Muldoon) back. Christie Clark is 31 years old. Not a kid anymore. For some reason, I've always been a Chloe fan. She and Brady have the makings of a supercouple, but Reilly would never be able to carry it off. Sami & Lucas are so far from being one, it's pathetic. Besides the ugliness (to each other) in their past, Sami still has feelings for Brandon (she & Brandon are better together IMO), which a supercouple never would at this stage of the relationship. It's sad that they are the only new couple to root for. Ugh. Mimi & Rex come across as an afterthought. Every character is systematically being destroyed. What a freaking wuss John has turned into. Mickey? Don't recognize him anymore. Kate? A strong woman turned shrill busybody. Maggie? She'd never stand for Mickey's behavior. God bless Doug & Julie.

I like Sami, although I think she is being written badly of late. I can understand why people don't like her, but I have been trying to ignore the bad writing since it has hit everyone. |

A spinoff wouldn't bother me, in fact I'd like it. But the main focus would have to be the writing staff and let's face Passions is written for a younger crowd and JER is showing he certainly can't generate storylines good enough to keep the base audience interested and to bring in new fans. The show is in last place in the standings and hasn't shown any growth since it started. NBC would have to bring in new writers and hope they could grab the interest of the younger audiences. jmo |

I think a Sami Spin-off would be great to watch, maybe all of Salem ran Sami out of town. Sami is my favorite character and I would watch if their was onr about her. the show could be about Sami growing up but still a little troubled. they could use some of the chracters related to Sami, Kate John Belle Marlena Roman Lucas, and the could bring in the new cast of the Sami show. | |
