For those of you who read the Harry Potter books (like me), JK Rowling has announced on her website that the sixth Harry Potter book titled Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince will be released in The US, UK, Canada, and Australia on July 16, 2005. I am so excited about this and can't wait.

What does Harry Potter have to with Days, you ask? Well, nothing. Thats why it was posted as O/T... Meaning: 'Off Topic'

Personally... I can't wait. Though I'm not quit finished with the Goblet of Fire yet.

The Goblet of Fire is my favorite in the HP series, I don't know how much you know about the next book The Order of The Phoenix but be warned it was without a doubt the saddest of the entire Potter bunch. I didn't care for it too much but its still a good read.

I cant' wait. I've loved the entire series and I absolutely inhaled Order of the Phoenix. I like that the story is becoming more complex.
Reader of Goblet: just wait til you get to Phoexnix!

My daughter is 28 and I am in my mid 50's. We both love the Harry Potter books and own all the movies to date. I cannot wait for book 6 and 7........ These books are such page turners. I devour them immediately.....

Only sour note is they will have to recast the 3 main characters on the next movie. The originals will be too old to look 14 in the 4th movie. Just hope they're as lovable as the current cast. Also miss the original Dumbledore, Peter O'Toole was perfect. Rex sounds okay, but his appearance should be more like Peter's. They should have made the movies back to back, but can't have everything. <Sigh>

My understanding is that they plan to continue with the current cast all the way thru the series.

BTW, you've made one of the most common identity mistakes -- it was Richard Harris, not Peter O'toole, (who is still, thankfully, alive) who was the original Dumbledore. People have been confusing the two hard-drinking, womanizing actors for decades.

They will use the same cast throughout all 7 movies and each movie is supposed to represent a new school year at Hogwarts, so they are not supposed to be 14 in the 4th movie.

Age of actors

December 31 2004, 11:34 PM

The promo's for the Azkaban movie had Daniel Radcliffe saying he didn't expect to play Potter again. All 3 stars were on a 1/2 hour TV special showing previews of Azkaban when it was first out. All 3 agreed they probably would not do another movie due to ages. I'd love to see them finish it out......

And capecodfan you are right. It was Richard Harris on the first 2 movies. Not sure who is playing Dumbledore now...I'll have to run the new DVD and check out the listing. Wish his beard and hair were as white and even as Richard's was. I'm a diehard Potter and Days fan. Been watching Days since 1972. My mother-in-law got me and my kids hooked. Marlena was dating Don Craig and Julie and Doug were the "supercouple" then too. Took years for them to get together in the end. When they finally married happily, they were written out. Very much like they're doing to Shawn D and Belle now.

I'm sorry. It has always been my understanding everyone had signed on for the whole series. I'm afraid recasting will kill the franchise.

Re: Signing

January 4 2005, 2:41 PM

I think that they only signed the actors to the first four movies because at the time WB only bought the rights to books 1-4 since the 5th was still being written now they've bought the rights to Order of the Phoenix and Half-Blood Prince and they'll buy the 7th book's rights when JKR announces its title, because a contract can expire and if they buy the rights too far in advance then they'll loose the rights and JKR could re-sale it to another studio and make twice the money. This happened with Anne Rice's books after WB bought the rights to Interview with a Vampire they also bought the rights to The Vamprie Lestat and The Queen of The Damned then in 2001 the rights had nearly expired so they hired some writers to combine the two books into one movie and that became The Queen of The Damned movie with Stuart Townsend. So the actors were probally only signed for the first four movies but I think the studio will work hard to sign them on for the next two. I personally think its reasonable to have them playing them I mean exactly how old are the kids of the O.C. and they're playing Seniors in High School.

4th Movie and beyond

January 5 2005, 11:05 AM

The current cast is presently making the 4th movie. Radcliff said he didn't know if he'd do another one but didn't rule it out (think big $$$). He's one year older than the Harry Potter character and they plan on making one movie per year to keep his character aging naturally. It really does add to the movies to see Potter growing into a man. The movies will be made but not necessarily released for a year or two after filming completes.

If Rowling doesn't write book 7 for 2 more years, that will be a problem for doing the movies age-wise; however, since Harry will be a man (18) in the last movie, letting Daniel age a couple extra years in real life would only add to his mature look and therefore still carry off the part just fine, if not better.

I LOVE Harry Potter. Those books are fantastic!
