Chapter 4

It has been three weeks since that night. Heather was being a really great friend to Belle. Belle hadn’t told anybody what happened. She didn’t even know who drugged her. At school, whenever a guy looked at her she wondered if it was him. It scared her to know that whoever it was had taken something away from her and she didn’t even know who.
Shawn hasn’t spoken to her. She tried to talk to him but he would just walk away. What was he planning on telling her that night? Now she’ll never know. She didn’t only lose her best friend, he was more than that to her. She lost her possible true love.
The worst thing is what she just found out a few days ago. She had ran out of the clinic before the doctor could give her the morning after pill and now she was pregnant. She was so scared. What would everyone think of her? How would they react? Belle didn’t want to wait to find out. She emptied her bank account and packed a bag with clothes and pictures of her family, and of course, her buddy bear. She left a note by her bed and after everyone had gone to bed, she left.
Belle decided that hitchiking was the best way to go. That way it would be harder for them to track her down. A car stopped and Belle got in.
“Where are you heading?” asked a nice lady with long brown hair and hazel eyes who looked to be in her late thirties.
“As far away from here as possible,” Belle responded.
“My name is Kayla Parker.”
“I’m Belle Black. Thank you for the ride Mrs. Parker.”
“It’s miss actually but call me Kayla and you are very welcome.”
“Your not married? Why not? Wait! Don’t answer that. It is none of my buisness.”
“It’s okay. I am not married because I am afraid of the commitment. I have been asked before, three times in fact. *I can never bring myself to say yes.”
“You seem so sweet and you are beautiful. It doesn’t surprise me that you had been asked three times.”
“Thank you. So, what’s your story? If you don’t mind my asking.”
Belle didn’t know why but she felt like she could trust Kayla and that she should tell her and so she did. She told her everything. She even told her about the baby.
“You poor girl. I am going to New York. I manage an inn there. I was just coming back from visiting a relative when I saw you. I have lots of room at the penthouse I live at. Why don’t you come and stay with me until you are ready to go back home,” offered Kayla with a sweet smile.
“Really,” asked Belle, surprised by her kindness.
“Really.”
“I’d love to. Thank you. I have some money so I will be able to pay you rent and for my own food and I’ll get a job.”
“Don’t worry about any of that.” Kayla hesitated before continuing. “I was pregnant not long ago. I was going to have a baby boy but I fell down the stairs and I lost my child.”
“I’m sorry,” said Belle sympathetically.
“I was eight months along when it happened and I had a beautiful nursery set up. I never got the nerve to pack everything away so it is still there. If you are still there when the baby is born then you are more than welcome to it.”
“Thank you,” replied Belle and she smiled at the women. Someone was definitely looking out for her.

It was morning and Marlena walked into Belle’s room to wake her for school but she wasn’t there. Marlena spotted the note and read it.

Dear Mom, Dad, and Brady
I am sorry but I have to go. I can’t tell you why because “ don’t want you to be ashamed of me. I don’t know when I will be back, or if I will be back. Please don’t look for me. I can’t come home. I love you all so much but I couldn’t stay. Not after what happened. Please forgive me and know that I will always love you and I will think of you every minute of every day.
Love, Belle.

“Oh, dear god. John!” screamed Marlena as tears ran down her face.
