Response to Sadly you continue to miss the point...

And I'm not sure what point I "continue" to miss... this was my first reply on the thread. What you call "flair," I call a little too harsh.

Instead of this:

"And I am very, very, sorry to be the one who has to break this to you, but no. You can NOT sing Queen of the Night, Stride la vampa, and Una furtiva lagrima equally well. The fact that you lack high notes does not make you a mezzo or a baritone; the fact that you lack a chest voice does not make you a soprano or tenor."

Why wouldn't this have worked:

"Guys, remember that you can't be someone you're not and that includes when you sing. What you do well will take you places, so why present something you know isn't your best? Figure out what shows your voice in its best light, and run with it. When you don't do that, we know it, and more importantly, you know it---it makes your audition less strong and doesn't bring out the best singer in you. So sing what you sing best, and forget about everything else."

That way, anyone reading this wouldn't think they were being picked on in particular, and they would still get the point.

Basically, I'm asking her to be a little nicer without actually changing the message. Why exactly is that so wrong? What on earth could it hurt?
