Response to I'd say go for it because

I mean, everyone griping about how young the age limit is and how they like singers, get over it. it's pretty well known at this point...just deal.

I say, if you are good enough not to make a fool out of yourself doing it, then do it. No one will fault you for trying, and if they do, they're not worth your time anyhow.

Sing things you know and are good at and enjoy the ride. It's an interesting competition. I didn't make it past the district level in my first year, and the next year was all the way to the finals. So, you never know what will happen.

Take it for what it is worth. As a quite famous French coach once told me at a well known international competition that was not the most impartial in its choices: "c'est un concours..." That's all you can say about any competition. You take your chances, and most of the time the best person doesn't win. That doesn't mean anything though. It's all about what you take from it.
