I have had acid reflux from singing for years now. I've made the lifestyle changes, I'm very sensitive to my body, I take care of myself, I don't over-pressurize.
I am looking for what the most popular medication is for reflux among singers. Singers have specific concerns that are different from the general population. I'm wondering what medication tends to be the best for us, allowing us to sing at our best by controlling symptoms that affect our throats and digestive system.
I was on Prilosec for years, which was great except for some sensitivity, bad acid reflux episodes, and gradually not being able to eat out anymore. I've been switched to Aciphex which is great for my general lifestyle, but not for singing. When I sing now I get reflux, hoarseness, and upset digestive system. My GI and my ENT don't have any insight into this saying the medications are the same basically, and it's not the medication*, generally not helping. Hoarseness is why I started this medication in the first place years ago. I'm wondering if there's something out there that is better than Prilosec but can prevent this reaction when I sing. (It's making singing something I slightly dread rather than enjoy, sadly. It's demoralizing to be hoarse even when I have good technique.)
If you would let me know what you use and if you know what your fellow singers use, it would be helpful. I know it's supposed to be subjective to what doctors are preferring these days and our own bodies, but maybe something will come out on top that everyone loves. Thank you so much.
*I don't quite know what they mean here. I know it's not the meds, but the med is not controlling the reflux. These symptoms started when I switched the medication.
