420's harder on the throat because it takes more effort to inhale and holds the smoke right where you don't want it - on your cords - for longer. I read a whooole long dissertation about it for a vocal physiology course once upon a time. The author, to my great amusement, actually likened it to DT-ing multiple times a day in terms of potential damage!
True, some of the greats have managed to juggle smoking and singing fabulously. I just don't think it's the best approach, personally. I'm no saint myself, but I'm not trying to tell myself that it's healthy for my voice or the longevity of my career! |
