In an attempt to curb my intake of adult beverages, I've been hitting the 420 not too infrequently. I much prefer it to the beverages. BUT, I'm feeling that my chords don't have the ping they used to. Am I doing something wrong?
I realized I had to make the choice between smokey smokey and singey singey. Unless you are eating it, it won't do you any favors vocally, esp. as a tenor. Not only the hot smoke on the cords but the coughing as well. You could try a bong, but in general it's bad news. IMO.
(I still am an advocate for legalization, even if I don't partake regularly!)
I'm with BV here. I don't think it takes rocket science to realize that smoking anything + singing career = incompatible. Perhaps you haven't quite thought this one through.
I'm as much a fan of it as the next girl, but only during longer breaks between singings!!
420's harder on the throat because it takes more effort to inhale and holds the smoke right where you don't want it - on your cords - for longer. I read a whooole long dissertation about it for a vocal physiology course once upon a time. The author, to my great amusement, actually likened it to DT-ing multiple times a day in terms of potential damage!
True, some of the greats have managed to juggle smoking and singing fabulously. I just don't think it's the best approach, personally. I'm no saint myself, but I'm not trying to tell myself that it's healthy for my voice or the longevity of my career!
Yes, I do enjoy...but I have to be smoking with others, or else I feel like I don't do it right...I get a bad reaction. Last week I smoked for the first time in a while by myself and then went out. At first, I was just really chill, but then I started to get really bitchy. I also feel like it kills my libido...I feel like the beverages do a better job for me but I also want to kill my calorie intake, haha. Maybe I need to try the water bong thing...

I'm not a huge fan of it in general-me likey the adult beverages (polishes off rest of almost nightly bottle of pinot grigio) but when I do smoke it, I almost always come down with something. I'm allergic to so many weeds and plants, it wouldn't surprise me if it weakens my immune system and affects my voice more because of some wierd allergic thing.
I'd eat it if I was going to partake regularly. I'm fine with cigarettes on occasion with a cocktail, but anything unfiltered usually screws me. You could also make some tea out of it!

Not in a while.... but, when my arthritis is out of remission it is one of the only things that can help me sleep without putting me out of commission for days.
Also, when I was on a certain meds that made me very nautious.
That being said, I take very minimal quantities of it and only when desperate. I have touched it in months.
If you put almost ice cold water in the bong, it helps.
... do you read Internet forums much? If you think THIS conversation is "bad," try reading other shit out there.
Remember, my good man, this is an Internet forum -- so people read and post from all over the world. Medicinal hemp is legal in California and other states. Many countries legalized cannabis years ago.
Do you know you can buy all sorts of books on cannabis (how to grow it, etc.) at Barnes and Noble? Have you been to San Fran?
I don't smoke often by any means (not anymore) maybe once a month at most? As long as I'm not singing the next day I'm absolutely fine.
I don't think you have to choose between singing or smoking..I think that's a little dramatic considering alcohol also has its consequences. As long as you smoke in moderation you should be fine.
Have you tried a vaporizer? It's very smooth.. I don't remember coughing at all while using one.
and young people in their thirties who smoke a lot of it are developing emphysema. It is certainly not benign, in fact it is probably worse for you than tobacco smoke. It's just that people tend to smoke less of it, so the overall effect is usually less.
If you must, use a water pipe, or eat it. And if you have a family history of mental illness, be very, very careful. There are some interesting and worrying links between thc and schizophrenia and depression.

You have to be careful not to break the glass parts, but putting a bit of ice in the water pipe can make the smoke a lot cooler. I never noticed a significant difference in temperature between a regular pipe and a water pipe with room-temperature water. Burning-hot steam does not feel good on the throat!
A vaporizer is probably the best choice for inhalants, because the THC gets vaporized and the leaf doesn't actually burn.
I don't smoke anymore, because I never know when I'll get called to sing--and I like to practice with my voice in the best possible shape.
you mean, just taking the smoke into the mouth, not inhaling? That's not a terrible idea. You still get some of the effects. That's what I do on the rare occasions that I have a cigar, and I definitely feel the nicotine, especially when I send it up out the nose. Or do you mean taking the smoke into the mouth, letting it cool, then inhaling? That'll work as well.
