Half an hour of conversation each in French, German, and Italian. I've got people who are pretty fluent at each language to help guide the conversation.
We're meeting Tuesday nights at Cafe Amrita (formerly known as Saurin Parke Cafe), which is at 301 110th st, just off Central Park West. Right at the B&C 110th st stop, and a few blocks walk from the 2&3 110th st. The meeting starts at 7, and if we start on time is over at 8:30, at which point you can hang out and talk in English.
Bring dictionaries, phrase books, text books, foreign language pick-up lines, any study materials that might help you or others.
Of course we don't expect you to be proficient at all 3 languages, just to be willing to try. (Or at least listen or do some flashcards while we talk!)
Strict no-English policy! If you must speak English, head over to the bar!
We're just getting things started (had our first meeting last night, huge success) so for now it would be nice to have a heads-up on who's coming and what languages you speak and don't speak, so I know whether or not I need to stress about finding another German speaker, etc. But it's totally drop-in, so don't be shy about showing up! And above all PLEASE don't be shy to speak a foreign language!
And no it's not just for opera singers, anyone who wants to practice French, German, and Italian is welcome. So bring your friends!!
Make learning a new language your new year's resolution.
a mardi alors
