with
Amy Justman
(Broadway's Company, White Christmas)
and
Andy Einhorn
(Music Director, Sweeney Todd, The Light in the Piazza)
Are you interested in exploring the world of musical theater? Learn how to successfully apply your vocal training and skills to the theatrical world.
Each singer in this class will receive individual coaching on a song of their choosing, including both technical and performance-related issues and highlighting the differences between song preparation for the opera world and musical theater. Time will be set aside at the end of the class for a Q&A session addressing the specifics of the musical theater audition process.
On Broadway, Amy Justman played Susan in the recent revival of Company and covered the lead role of Betty Haynes in White Christmas. In addition to her many regional and New York theatrical credits, Amy has been a vocal soloist at Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center, and the Ravinia Festival. She was a winner of the Kurt Weill/Lotte Lenya Competition and holds a M.M. in Classical Voice from the Manhattan School of Music. Amy has been a voice teacher and coach for over 10 years.
Andy Einhorn served as the resident musical director for the recent tour of Sweeney Todd. His other credits include tours of The Lion King, The Light in the Piazza, White Christmas, Mamma Mia! and workshops of iSondheim and The Little Mermaid. He has worked as an orchestrator and arranger, as well as in collaboration with such artists as Audra McDonald, Kelli OHara, Michael Cerveris, and Aaron Lazar. He holds a degree in Piano Performance from Rice University.

Woah, just saw this post...anyone curious about crossing over would be NUTS not to jump at this opportunity. Andy Einhorn is the BOMB. Fantastic coach, great ears, legit-singer friendly, love, love, love. Definitely one of the top and most connected MT coaches in town, could not recommend working with him enough (which reminds me...I need a coaching, bad! as soon as the rent check clears...)
I realize the whole MT audition process can be unnerving--it is in no way similar to an opera audition, and there are so many classes and workshops out there, it's hard to know what is a crock and what's not. Some of you guys that I've seen at open calls have asked how to know which coaches and classes are worth the time, money, etc, etc. This would definitely be a great place to start at a price that's not too scary. I have not worked with Amy, but it would be safe to say that she knows her shit based on her credentials.

She and I did Natchez together. She lives up to her credentials. |
