hey residents of america jr.... I'm wondering what your national treasure baritone Allan Monk is doing these days. Coaching? teaching? where? interested in more info if anyone has it. Thanks.
Edited for reverse posterity. Hope it helped answer the original question.
Also, seconding those below me who called you out on the "america jr" business. I was going to let it go, but it's been bothering me since I read your post yesterday. Please. Never again. When your nation is an eighth as democratic, educated, and civilized as ours, then perhaps you can bring out the insulting and patronizing names. Until then, you may refrain from doing so.

Get your head out of your ethocentric ass and call the country by it's actual name; or at least by a nickname that isn't belittling.
"The Great White North" or somesuch would do quite well, if your mental capacities aren't quite up to recalling the actual name of the US's biggest trading partner and closest neighbour.
And as for "[our] national treasure," he certainly is legendary...

just saw this now. Canadians can't take jokes it seems. anyway, thanks for the info on Monk. Looks like he's enjoying his retirement... it's well deserved.
Canadians do tend to be a bit sensitive about being assumed to be Americans, because we aren't! It is a sore point; which is why you got the reaction you did. But part of being a good friend and neighbour includes not poking your friend's sore spots.
Your "joke" was belittling and insulting. I am prepared to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you didn't mean it that way (or you didn't think about the differences between our cultures before you typed), but be assured that that is how it came across. When interacting across cultural barriers, it is quite possible to give unintentional offense (like eating with your left hand in an Arab country).
Instead of being defensive and mocking us for "not being able to take a joke" (and demonstrating your cultural insensitivity), you might try apologizing for being unintentionally offensive and ask a few questions about the differences between Canadian and American culture. Who knows, you might learn something.

You are simply not reading the obvious. There are several people who have objected and been offended by your baligerant (sp) statement.
I think you need to stop skirting away from the fact that you are not simply shutting up and just apologizing. you have been insensitive.
whether or not you believe in your apology , we dont care, we just dont need you make matter worse by justifying your comment. now i am not a canadian nor do i live in Canada but I do believe in being a good neighbour.
your best bet is to simply take accountability that the people on this forum have taken offense and you caused it.
most mature individuals would say "wow, ok im sorry I offended you, i can see you are upset by my statement, i do apologize."
then just shut up, because you lose any possibility of people helping you here in future.

was it really necessary

to use the n-word to make this point? It could have just as easily been made without it. I mean, seriously. The original comment was stupid, yes, but nowhere near THAT level.
I was deliberately being provocative. I apologize if I went too far.

and you are the more evolved for recognizing it and apologizing. Your point is well taken though...
Name calling of ANY kind is uncalled for - and rudeness poorly disguised as "jokes" are offensive no matter what. I am Canadian and have lived many places in this world, and do not live in Canada now, but I don't believe ignorance is attractive in ANY form. Thus my response to the original poster.
I am tired of allowing stupid people free rein. Time to call them on it.
Thanks Tenordoc!
