I will be visiting Toronto next week (from the U.S.), and I was wondering if there are any good music stores for classical sheet music and scores there. Thanks for any recommendations, or if there are none, just let me know.

Remenyi used to be good but, now it sucks big time. I order most of my stuff through my local dealer or online.

Umm... well... Why would you want to???

Seriously, even with the exchange rate, you will be paying more for any music in Canada than you would anywhere in the USA!!!

For example, if the price on the back of a Hal Leonard Anthology is US$19.95, you will be paying anywhere from $29.95-$44.95 in Canadian dollars (US$24-$36)!!! Yes, tis true... There are alot of factors that go into it, but we're paying additional duties, increased shipping costs, higher warehousing costs, highers wages and the whole shebang...

Just save yourself alot of time, and order everthing from Glendower Jones at Classical Vocal rep. He has everything, knows what he's talking about and has the best prices... www.classicalvocalrep.com

You can look at the Remenyi House of Music, across the street from the ROM Crystal on Bloor... but you'll be disappointed. If you do want to see a whole lot of music, goto the Toronto Public Reference Library (just North of Bloor on Yonge) and you'll find thousands or scores that you didn't even know existed.

The Toronto Reference Library is great. There is also the Canadian Music Centre, if you are interested in Canadian music. Here is the address:

Canadian Music Centre
Ontario Region
Chalmers House
20 St. Joseph Street
Toronto, ON
M4Y 1J9

http://www.musiccentre.ca/ont.cfm

You could check out U of T's music library as well:

Hope this helps
