DER KAISER VON ATLANTIS is a beautiful, irreverent one-act opera composed by Viktor Ullmann and librettist Petr Kien while they were living in the Terezín concentration camp. The original performances were halted when SS guards watched a rehearsal and realized the plot was a thinly veiled allegory for Hitlers war against the Jews. Ullmann and Kien were sent to Auschwitz on October 16, 1944; they died in the camp. A single manuscript survived in the hands of Ullmann's friend.

This new production features young stars from the Metropolitan Opera, New York City Opera, Opera Australia and La Scala and the phenomenal NY-based ensemble ICE.
