I'm trying to get medieval on my music collection. My problem is with my pop/rock/country/blues/electronica/disco -type music, not opera/voice/classical/filmscore/orchestra/jazz/christmas.

Until now, I was trying to use the "Genre" label and a ridiculously complex Smart Playlists to help me divide up everything, but I'm realising there are now "Groupings" and "Category" sorting labels. What is the hierarchy meant to be?

If I have popular music that could also be referred to as disco, 80's, britpop, classic rock, alternative, alt-country, folk..... where do I draw the line? What's going to help me group stuff for listening?

What do you do?
