Day Job: High School Teacher
Opportunity: Outreach Tour. EDUCATIONAL. OUTREACH.

I got this offer for April and decided to put in my request for the PROFESSIONAL. DEVELOPMENT. time that I will need to EDUCATE. CHILDREN. over six days while the tour goes on.

And my artless principal emails that this is personal time.
PERSONAL TIME?!

And then he says, "either way I don't think I can justify six days out of the building."

And I would just like to
a) kick him in the face and then
b) send an email with the following information: Please plan on me being sick for six days in April.

PS I was just out six days with swine. So y'know, shit happens.

the educational sysytem is weighed down much more by poor principals. My wife's current principal won't allow her kindergarden students to cut or paint because it isn't a needed skill. Another said no one was to send any children to his office because of discipline. The teacher was to contact the parents and no matter what the outcome she wasn't to be involved. My wife had one set of parents who child was incredible wild and they told her it wasn't their problem while he was in school and she wasn't to call them anymore. The principal still said it wasn't part of her job. She's had more bad principals than good ones.
One of the problems is a good principal is really alot of unglorious hard work and most are chosen not because that is their strength but because of other more political skills.

They're not allowed to "cut or paint because it isn't a needed skill?"

What a complete and utter moron. Yeesh.

This is a very good point. Of course, bad teachers exist too. But most of the teachers I know (especially at the younger levels) are more than willing to bend over backwards for kids and do so on a daily basis without a second thought or, of course, a word of thanks.

Also, in the 4 years I have been here, this dink has NEVER been to a concert (2x/year) or a musical (7 performances) or even a play (also usually 7 performances).
