I am looking for a good place to host my website. I received the domain name as a gift, and the sender used godaddy. Can I ask why godaddy seems comparatively cheaper than other places? Is there something wrong with it that I don't know about????? :P
Have used them for about a year with no problems. They were recommended to me by my web designers, who seem to know a good deal about this sort of thing, so I think it's reputable.
everything seems great so far, no problems. I think they're cheaper because they do more business than anyone else. I think it cost me about 50 bucks for the first year of hosting and they threw in the domain name.

About godaddy.com...seeing as how I am html illiterate, I need a program to do all the work for me. do they have that? Also, how many pages do you get with that? And can I upload pages from MS Publisher? Just a couple of qestions.
I currently use geocities, and am just looking for something with a little bit more to offer for as inexpensive as I can find. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Godaddy I think works together with a company called Website tonight. From what I gather, they have templates and all to help. There is some restriction on pages... I think you get 5, which isn't enough for me.
You can teach yourself html. It is a bit tedious, but from what I've found, templates are a bit dry and you'll be able to do much more if you can code yourself.
I tried to upload my website using their ftp instructions and nothing happened. Is there a restriction on size/space with GoDaddy that I missed? I assume that in addition to the domain name that they host my site? Gee, do I feel estupido!
did you purchase hosting from them in addition to the domain name? They're two separate things. The domain name is only a few dollars a year, the web hosting is about $40-50.

From what you wrote, you have a domain, registered for 2 years and you have paid a bit extra for it to be a private listing (which is good)....
Unfortunately, you don't have hosting yet. That would cost at least $3.50/mo (so.... $40 a yr). So what you need to do, is either decide to host your website at godaddy, or find another host.
Before signing up for hosting, make sure that the package you get is adequate for your needs. If your site is particularly big (if you have lots of pics or sound recordings or other fancy things0, you'll have to be sure you find something that is going to work.
they do have a service you can use, but I did mine with MS Frontpage and am happy with it. I think you have more flexibility this way and it's very easy. If you can use MS Word you can use this. Promise. And it's cheap. Check it out!

They rock. Believe me there are some really bad hosts out there (I've dealt with some of them) but 123ehost is great. Excellent support and quite inexpensive: their midlevel package is $75 for a year.
They have something like 1000 free templates if you are in need of one.
I've looked into them, and from what I can glean, you pay $2.99/month for a domain name, 8-page site, free site-builder, 5G web space, 250G monthly transfer volume, 500 email accounts with 2G email space, and more.
Has anyone had any experience with them? It looks great, and cheap.
Affordable Web Design, Recital Programs, Business Cards, etc.

I use godaddy, personally, though I'm still using their free hosting until I finish my sites completely.
Also - I'm working as a freelance graphic/web designer while finishing up my voice perf degree, so I thought I'd mention that I can offer affordable design options for your web site if you are looking to start one up. I also do recital posters and programs (covers and formatting all texts/translations, etc) and that can all be done remotely, so if you want to unload some recital stress to a meticulous worker for a small cost, I'd love to do it! I have some portfolio work and details athttp://design.alyssabrode.com.
Hmm, I just went back and checked again (I check in many browsers) and don't see and problems. Could you let me know which link(s)? Maybe it's just a problem with the GoDaddy free hosting. Thanks for the help though.
A small orange. They are a smaller company than go daddy and their customer support is outstanding. I have a one year contract and 2 registered domains for a total of around $60 for the year.
I've used them for 5-6 years now. Costs me US$7.00 per month for a Bronze membership, which gets me 5GB of disk space, 10 email addresses (which I don't use), FTP and HTTP access (I much prefer the former, and a lot of Web hosting services don't support it), no banner/popup ads.
They have two other paid levels: silver and gold (more disk space, faster transfer rates, more email addresses). The most expensive is about US$12 per month.
They also offer a free hosting package with FTP access, but it prohibits you from posting media files (audio, video) - and with only 100MB of free space, there's really not enough room for many of them anyway. Plus you have to put up with their ads. Which is why I upgraded after my first year to the Bronze membership.
In the time I've used 0catch, I have not had a single technical issue/problem. My Web page has been "down" due to their having maintenance/outage issues for perhaps a total of 3 days in the past 5 years. Pretty good track record IMO.
