| I'm sure this has been discussed before, but the search function isn't working!
Is it expected that you send a thank you note after every audition (YAP, grad school, etc?) Or does it just seem like you're fishing for compliments/feedback? If expected, what exactly should the note say?
Thanks! |

Honestly, these days with the amount of auditionees, I don't think they care one way or another. I think it would be good to do it for school auditions. They don't invite that many people to the school to audition.
I still send notes if it is a special professional audition that I tried hard to get into (I'm not managed) or they went out of their way to hear me.
If I want to connect I will send it by e-mail.
I don't think it has anything to do with fishing for compliments. For job interviews in any other field, it has always been proper manners to send a hand written thank you note after the job interview. That has evolved and typed notes are acceptable, as well as e-mail. It had nothing to do with fishing for compliments since you sent it the day of or the day after the interview and the company does not reply to your thank you note. For a business or academic interviews it would give you the chance to highlight again some of your skills and why you should get the job as well as fill in any gaps that were missed in the interview, additional information.
With respect to singing auditions, the thank you note is going to be much shorter and basically just thank you for the audition, It was a pleasure to sing, blah, blah, blah. I enjoyed working with the pianist (if they provided it) I look forward to hearing from you. |
