I do agree that we should not be in Afghanistan. However, we are there and our extremely brave armed forces have to obey orders, fight there and incur horrendous losses. For that, they deserve all of our respect for attempting, at great cost, to perform the impossible. For the media, both press and radio and T.V. to thrust the death of a has-been, who was an appalling example to our young people, at us ad nauseum beggars belief. Even the quality newspapers, such as the Daily Telegraph, have been caught up in this tacky story with five full pages devoted to it plus a large front page photograph. Compare that with a begrudging couple of lines devoted to each casualty our armed forces suffer. Jackson was just another screaming pop "singer" who was created by the record industry to deprive gullible youngsters of their cash. At least, when this hysteria dies down, we shall, thankfully, hear no more of him. |
