Yes, Lisa, I do think that the media went over the top in reporting Princess Diana's death. I don't recall what Jane Goody was but the same applies there. You see, I do not subscribe to the cult of celebrity. I can enjoy the skills of a sportsman, enjoy the artistry of a good singer and applaud someone's achivements in other fields. But I am not the slightest interested in their private lives and, apart from feelings of sadness when someone dies, I find the regurgitating of the minute details of their lives and death to be, frankly, distasteful and sickening.
May I use this submission to answer Jane's question about Elvis Presley? Yes, I did quite like some of his singing. However, I did not feel any great feelings of distress when his death was announced. |
