That is another possible scandal. The rights on old recordings used to last for the lifetime of the copyright holder. However, the record companies would like them to lapse after 50 years. This means that Move It by Cliff Richard is now out of copyright (it was recorded in 1958), and The Beatles would start to go out of copyright in 2013 (Love Me Do was recorded in September 1962). There are very few artists with contracts for royalties on fifty-year-old recordings - now, just as they are getting old and in need of a pension boost, they are cut off.
