Shop assistants are stepping up on the hard sell to increase business, according to a new report. Sample techniques:
"That colour really brings out your eyes."
"We don't know when we'll have them in your size again."
"They only made this specific model of laptop in a limited run to test the market."
The report says that sales representatives are becoming the masters of psychology to turn window shoppers into paying customers by employing a series of techniques that can persuade even the most reluctant consumer into making a purchase he or she had not planned. But how many of us actually fall for it and are we really swayed by the soft talk of the salesperson?
I wonder how many contributors have got home only to realise that they have bought something that was unsuitable or even unwanted.
