Well said, Kenneth. However, may I answer all the republicans/anti monarchists by adding to your submission?
Her Majesty, and Her family, cost us a few pence per head per annum. In return, we have a figurehead around whome all the people of this country can rally in a way that no country rallies around a president. Wherever members of the Royal Family go, trade, invariably, follows. The Jubilee has attracted enormous interest abroad and huge numbers of foreign visitors have come to this country to sample the unique atmosphere and pageantry of the occasion. The benefit to this country has been calculated in billions. You cannot get an hotel room, in London, this week-end, for love nor money. How many people would go France, for instance, to see a presidential parade? We have a monarch of which we should be proud. So, I say to you anti-monarchists, "Open your eyes and recognise what a marvellous and unique institution we have in our monarchy. Drop your stupid prejudices and join the vast majority of British people in celebrating a once in a lifetime experience."
