Our Duck means Doll

The preferred term of greeting round here is duck.
And according to today's paper Duck means Doll.
It is an East Midlands thing apparently, including Lincoln and Stamford, says today's Guadian Diary [last item; scroll down]
I've heard it in Leeds; is this an aberration?
Just wondering what they say in Boston.
